Terraria's been on more platforms than we can count at this point. First launched in 2011, Nintendo fans have been able to play it on 3DS, Wii U, and Switch, and 10 years later, it's still going strong. Initially bringing us a "2D Minecraft" concept, Terraria slowly found a life of its own.
Now, Re-Logic's game has hit yet another milestone. Previously reaching just over 30 million sales back in April 2020, Terraria's now seen an incredible 35 million copies worldwide across every platform. Like before, Re-Logic has announced this update via the official forums.
Offering a breakdown of sales, it doesn't specify individual console statistics, but here are the full figures:
- 17.2 Million sold on PC
- 8.5 Million sold on Consoles
- 9.3 Million sold on Mobile devices
Compared to last year's figures, its clear this has mostly been driven by PC players, accounting for 3.2 million additional sales, and also it's worth noting that Re-Logic just released a Stadia port, too. Console sales increased by 900k, whilst mobile players brought in 600k extra.
Terraria's final major content update – the fittingly named Journey's End – also launched on PC last May, but console owners are still awaiting its launch.
Speaking further about this, Re-Logic put out this statement:
The momentum for Terraria has never been stronger than it is right this moment. When you add that to what is still to come this year with Console Journey's End, Steam Workshop Support, getting to parity content for everyone... and then the possibility of crossplay down the line (we hope!), you could easily say that Journey's End may have arrived, but the journey for Terraria is far from over!
For a game released nearly a decade ago, no one can argue that Terraria's done exceptionally well, and it looks like players can expect plenty more to come in 2021.
Are you still playing Terraria? Looking forward to Journey's End? Leave a comment in the usual spot.

Fantastic game they've made there, looking forward to journey's end on switch.... Even if I still prefer modded.
I used to play this a lot on Wii U and my mobile phone, but never got the Switch version. Super fun game, although some versions have somewhat clunky controls.
Never got into it despite trying it for an hour or two. I know graphics/aesthetics are not the most important thing in a game by a long shot, but when you really don't like a games graphics, or for you they are (subjectively) bad, it's really hard to keep playing.
This is why I can't put series time into what is surely a good game - it just looks too damn ugly (imo). That and the fact we have so many good games I DO like the look of these days. I felt the same way about the Binding of Issac unfortunately - although I didn't like the premise of that game either.
for me the most interesting part is how this game sold quite equally well in all 3 gamingworlds. I mean PC is stronger, but theres a certain balance to these sales which is nice. Some years ago, everything would always predict the end of console gaming and mobile gaming taking over the world and I was just confused why it should ever end up like that. I mean its still a develpopment but still I guess consoles are here to stay for hopefully many generations to come.
And seeing indie titles taking off like this also makes me just happy. I don't care about terraria that much, but so cool that such a concept can find so many fans. I can imagine, realizing that their game sold more than Zelda BOTW might make the devs a bit dizzy.
Also I made up three of those copies sold! Worth every penny!
@brunojenso
I think you're explaining yourself too much. Just saying that you think it looks ugly shouldn't be such a big deal, its a comment section after all. I actually share this observation as I really don't like the whole design. And of course this is not about the artstyle as there's a similar kind of game on iOS called Junk Jack which looks just so wonderful yet also pixely.
But one shouldn't need to put a (imo) into each and every sentence; I understand some guys can get salty but they'll always be, no matter what
@valcoholic True that, and I guess I was trying to defend from the potential 'graphics don't make a game' brigade. I'm aware of Junk Jack and yes it does have a nice look to it - the same weird rotating arms instead of actual animation though if I remember. Maybe I'll just say 'Terraria is very fugly' and be done then
Amazing game! Got the Switch and the 3DS version.
I lost myself in this game for hours and hours and haven't even scratched the surface!
Waiting for the Journey's End on the Switch!
Did they release the Stadia version? Last I heard it was cancelled because Google banned the lead developer's Google account for unknown reasons.
@ermzzz
They were able to resolve the issue with the lead developer's Google account, and development of the Stadia version went back on track afterwards.
So strange that Google wouldn't get back in touch with one of their high profile app developers though.
I like STARBOUND better. shame never was launched on consoles.
One of my favourite games ever. I can´t wait to get journeys end on switch.
Would buy it if it didn't have the switch tax tacked onto it.
@RupeeClock Because they hired imbiciles to run the Stadia brand and had no idea how to advertise or monetize properly. I have no idea what they were thinking.
