The world has seen a small army of Minecraft clones make their way to gaming consoles - some have been successful, others not so much. Developer Wobbly Tooth Games is the latest to join the trend (for a second time, actually) by bringing Battleminerz to Nintendo 3DS.
The game is a sequel to the studio's earlier effort Battleminer (a game released back in 2014 that we weren't particularly keen on). This new edition has been shown off in a trailer (which you can see below) and promises to 'build' (sorry) upon the original with a whole bunch of new additions.
The trailer states that the game will feature several modes including Adventure, Creative, Horde, and Battle, as well as supporting local and online multiplayer. There are functions for character customisation and this sequel includes new tools, weapons, and items. Oh, and you can ride a giraffe (which is always welcome in our minds).
Something perhaps worth mentioning is that Battleminerz will be available across all Nintendo 3DS models. This is hardly surprising but, for anyone who couldn't play Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition thanks to not having the updated console, this new game will be available to owners of all systems.
The game is scheduled for release in 'Winter 2017 and, naturally, we'll wait to see how this turns out before we jump on board. Would you welcome another game of this style on the 3DS, or do you think there are already enough options out there? Feel free to voice your opinions in the comments below.

yay
3ds is dead to me right now, all aboard the Switch train!
Ok I guess. Bad timing but ok.
At least it isn't exclusive to New 3DS!
So many guns... Call of Minecraft!
It actually does look pretty good. Even though the game will be naff (like his other games), they do hold a certain charm. I enjoyed Ice Station Z. I would pick it up if it were on Switch, but I've stopped buying on 3DS.
Dude, use the funds you make from this to get yourself a Switch dev kit!
Will this game succeed or will it fail?
Find out next time on Battle Miner Z
Haha I couldn't resist
They probably weren't counting on minecraft actually coming to 3DS.
Whoops
Why every developer tries to make their own Minecraft instead of trying to come up with new ideas?
Cool still love my 3ds
I liked the magic hammer
Is it just me or did that multiplayer footage look very slow
It actually looks better than the official N3DS Minecraft.
why would anyone buy this instead of actual Minecraft ?
@Moon you enjoyed ice station z? Was it updated or anything, because I actually liked the idea of it but thought it was a really poor game imo. Not trying to slag off the developer and appreciate he was trying to do something interesting but I felt it was really bare bones.
I'm interested.
Wait this has 8 player online with voice chat??! I was going to pick up Minecraft for New 3DS but I'm here for this. Think I might get this instead.
It's nice to see 3DS support. Yes the Switch is out and is on fire right now but the 3DS can still coexist. There is so much coming out for the Switch in the next few weeks and even more in the coming months, I don't think this needs to be on the platform considering it already has a solid port of Minecraft. The 3DS has a butchered Minecraft and is for a portion of said user base because of the platform (N3DS). To the people who are still complaining when something is put on the duel screened handheld and not the Switch, have you ever heard the phrase "don't look a gift horse in the mouth? The Switch won't sell any faster with this game on it c:
@Pikachupwnage Actually, I would buy this over Minecraft. This one has Multiplayer, so that's a big plus for me.
I’m still wondering where the multiplayer update for Cube Creator 3D is. It was supposed to come out summer 2016. My son already had it and we encouraged his friend to buy it under the pretense that once the update came out they’d be able to play together. If you guys could do a follow up with Big John games on it that would be great.
For basically the price of Minecraft PE, Cube Creator is a nice Minecraft alternative that from what Ive seen is quite a bit more polished than the other Minecraft style games available on 3ds.
Unfortunately this game doesn’t seem to change the situation much. On the one hand 8 player multiplayer is impressive, as is infinite worlds but the gameplay seems lacking. My sons friend is limited to a standard 3ds plus all the kids with 2ds means there’s still a market for games that fill this niche. It would be great if this ends up being a quality release.
Wobbly Tooth also made The Magic Hammer, which has Minecraft elements in it, but is it's own unique version Battleminer. I play it to this day.
@admwllms Don't get me wrong, it was 'bad', but there was fun to be had. Me and my two brothers would all play online together, meet up, and find people to kill and steal all their stuff. There were some funny glitches too, some made you invincible... and there was a glitch that made you slide on the floor like a snake. Made us crease with laughter. The voice chat was hilairious too. All in all we got our money's worth out of it.
I understand why you wouldn't like it, though!
@eSocrates it's currently awaiting approval by Nintendo.
To think that this would have at least some sort of competitive FPS mode and a zombie mode!, that's two things I wanted on my 3DS which you can't find (unless you want overhead endless shooters like Monster Shooter), I had battleminer because I thought it would be a fun little clone....but it shortly lasted, Ice Station Z is good and many still play that online, probably gonna give this a try as not many games come out on the 3DS eshop anymore that I am interested in.
@admwllms I know I’m posting this after people have moved on but I wanted to let you know that Ice Station Z has had a boatload of patches and updates since release including expanded areas and bug fixes. It’s just sitting mostly unplayed on my 3DS so I don’t know how much better the game is now but it’s there.
@brandonbwii cool thanks for the info man
@Moon fair enough, cheers!
