The European Nintendo Download is now live, and this week brings quite a few varied options. We have three retail choices on the Switch, along with two download-only options; there are budget options on the New 3DS and Wii U too. Along with the usual discounts there are a number of titles to consider, so let's get to it.
Nintendo Switch Retail Download
Splatoon 2 (Nintendo, €59.99 / £49.99) - The freshest hit for the Nintendo Switch, this follows on from the excellent and much-loved Wii U original. We feel it improves over its predecessor in various ways, including the solo campaign and its centrepiece of online multiplayer, and gave it a hearty recommendation in our Splatoon 2 review. Available from 21st July.
Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star (XSEED, €54.99 / £49.99) - A title that's long been on some wishlists, this is a stylish hack and slash game and includes some bonuses on Switch; this includes over 30 previously-released paid DLC outfits for free, and an exclusive 'Unshackled Bride' outfit. We rather enjoyed our time with the E3 demo. Available from 21st July.
Cave Story+ (Nicalis, €29.99 / £26.99) - A definitive edition of one of the great original download games, this includes HD visuals and plenty of content from various add-ons across other platforms. Free updates are also adding new visuals and a co-op mode in time, too - we enjoyed this version a lot in our Cave Story+ review.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Boost Beast (Arc System Works, €9.99 / £8.99) - A developer with a history of spin-offs for IPs like Yoshi and Pikmin, this is an Arzest game that originally made its mark on smart devices. It's a colourful match-3 game that naturally adds its own ideas and flair to proceedings; we'll see how it stacks up in a review.
Samurai Shodown (HAMSTER, €6.99 / £6.29) - Set in 18th century Japan, Samurai Shodown — and the many sequels that it spawned — was pivotal in the early development of the fighting genre with its weapon-centric gameplay. We'll take another look, but if you want to go old school you can check out our Wii Virtual Console review from way back in 2008.
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
Infinite Golf (Petite Games, €1.99 / £1.79) - With a relatively stylish aesthetic this appears to be a simplistic game of flicking a golf ball towards the pin. An arcade mode limits your shots or you can relax in 'Endless Mode', with the main promotion being that "there is always one more level".

Europe getting goodies too.
As someone trying to collect every Switch game, this is the first week which is killing me. All those amiibo, three Switch retail releases, the pro controller and the console bundle... I need more money!
Nothing for me this week. Switch owners at least have Splatoon 2 to play.
It feels like only a few weeks ago we were discussing a possible Spla2n for the NX. Time moves so fast.
Pay the extra £3 or so and get CaveStory+ as a physical copy with free CD soundtrack and full colour manual.
Retail Splatoon 2 obviously. Canceling my FATE preorder, though, as I remembered how many Amiibos are releasing tomorrow. Gotta pick up the Bayonetta Amiibos tomorrow afternoon as well so no day long Splattling for me.
It's more than a tad expensive, but I just had to get Cave Story. Also Splatoon 2 and, if I can find an extra tenner, Boost Beast for me this week!
Possibly Splatoon but possibly Cave Story but possibly nothing.
Splatoon 2 and Samurai Shodown for me.
Already got my physical Fate copy on its way whilst finally got hold of a physical Cave Story+.
I think I'll leave it like that for this week.
Although I do wish we'd get more VC sales for the 3DS and Wii U, its not like they're selling loads especially on the latter.
@FX102A I just wish we'd get more sales on those two consoles period.
I'd grab Splatoon 2 if I had a Switch, but it'll be nothing for me this week.
@alasdair91 I am
Er, I kinda want all three Switch retail releases in a physical format. Interesting that it's actually cheaper to import a physical edition of Cave Story+ from Amazon's US store to the UK than it is to download it or buy it locally.
Splatoon 2 - is it better to have it physical, or do I download it for quick pick-up-and-play sessions?
I might get Splatoon 2, I'm just not sure if there's enough single player content there for the price (I'm not into multiplayer)....
Physical copy of Fate for me and that's me done for the summer. Just can't get into Splatoon sadly. Happy for all who love it though, enjoy!
Splatoon 2 and Fate. Both physically.
Got Cave Story + physical copy this week, and Splatoon 2 arriving tomorrow.
I might download Samurai Shodown at some point, but I'll be too busy with the above right now.
Gonna go physical with Splatoon!
It's been a long time since I've been able to mark off three games to buy! Today is a good day, indeed!
I never bought the original Splatoon and only played a small amount of it. I'll buy a physical copy today, though I am disappointed that it's not 2 people per console (no splitscreen).
Does anyone know if standard matches can be played offline with bots at all? Or is it just strictly a single player mode and thats it?
Another week of nothing for the 3DS. Since it seems pretty certain we won't see MHXX localised I think I'll be selling mine soon.
Awful, just awful. Cave Story+ anything more than £10 at this stage in it's lifecycle is undefendable. An absolute Indie essential but 'free' on almost every other platform at this stage - though a donation feels the right thing to do.
I was so tempted pick up one of the New splatoon 2 amiibo after picking up game. But after i thought long hard about it i realise that just like my first splatoon squid amiibo. I unlock new costume and end up finding a better outfit and never using it again... so think may pass on amiibo for now till they do little more then add few new missions or new costume.
@Pazuzu666 apparantly there retail version though i cant find it anywere... :/ wish had been little cheaper myself!
Samurai is second best in the serie after Samurai Shodown II, so it's a safe bet for fighting lovers.
