It's time for the Nintendo Download Update details for North America, and it looks like an excellent week. The Switch eShop gets five games, three of which we've already reviewed and rated highly. There are some quality options on the 3DS eShop, too, and the Wii U also has one release. Let's get to it, shall we?
Nintendo Switch eShop
De Mambo (The Dangerous Kitchen, $12.99 / $15.99CAD) - A smart and colourful game that's both chaotic and accessible; you can fight friends in Smash Bros.-style conflicts, take on co-op challenges or embark upon a solo quest. We rated this very highly in our De Mambo review.
Death Squared (SMG Studios, $14.99 / $16.99CAD) - A puzzle title that's proven popular on platforms such as PC, it's best enjoyed as a co-op game where you work through tricky challenge rooms. It's also perfectly suitable for solo play, and we enjoyed it a lot in our Death Squared review.
I and Me (Ratalaika Games, $9.99) - This is a puzzle game in which you control two cats at the same time, a concept we've seen utilised a few times over the years. It's well put together and is an utterly charming, beautiful experience; we gave it plenty of praise in our I and Me review.
Fatal Fury Special (HAMSTER, $7.99 / $9.87CAD) - You may have noticed that the Neo Geo had a lot of fighting games, and thankfully some of them are pretty darn good. Taking a page from Street Fighter’s book, this one is a faster remix of Fatal Fury 2 — which also got an ACA release — and adds a few new characters and a combo system. We'll take a fresh look, but in the meantime you could always check out our Wii Virtual Console review.
Levels+: Addictive Puzzle Game (flow, $6.99 / $9.99CAD) - We're occasionally suspicious of games that try to tell you their main hook with a description in the title, but let's hope for the best. This is a puzzle title where you slide and match panels, with mechanics linked to colours in order to mix up the gameplay. We'll see whether it's a good match for Switch in a review.
3DS eShop
Cursed Castilla EX (Abylight, $11.99) - Originally developed solo by Spanish coder Juan Antonio Becerra, this 3DS conversion does a terrific job of bringing the Ghosts 'n Goblins-esque action game to Nintendo's portable. It's deliciously challenging, beautifully designed and utilises the 3D effect brilliantly; that's what we think in our Cursed Castilla review, anyway.
Bit Dungeon+ (Dolores Entertainment, $8.00 / $11.99CAD) - A game with a focus on randomised dungeons and loot, we had a lot of fun with this in our Wii U eShop review; it'll be interesting to see how well the game transitions to the 3DS, though it appears to be single player only in this case.
Asdivine Cross (KEMCO, $9.99 / $13.99CAD) - This publisher has brought us plenty of RPG titles, and some may have played the rather decent Asdivine Hearts on the Wii U; this portable release revolves around a duo seeking to escape dungeons and save the world. Another normal Saturday night in KEMCO land.
3DS Demos
Miitopia Casting Call Demo (Nintendo, free) - Get ready to be the star of the show! In this free demo available now, pick some pre-made Mii characters or create your own. Assign each character a role and then cast them in one of three different in-game video trailers for upcoming RPG Miitopia game.
Hey! Pikmin (Nintendo, free)
3DS HOME Theme
Hey! PIKMIN: Adventure Together (Nintendo)
Wii U eShop
BOX UP (RCMADIAX, $1.49 / $1.99CAD) - In this title you try to guide a box up a screen (avoiding obstacles) in randomly generated levels.
As always Nintendo of America wants you to browse the eShop and check out the official sales and deals website for discount details.
There are plenty of choices in this week's update - let us know what you'll be downloading in the poll and comments below.

So many options to get
And only 12.75 on eshop
Cursed Castilla Ex has my interest.
Please let the miitopia trailers be posted on miiverse.
I've gone a bit crazy with my purchases since buying the Switch last week,I need to slow down. Fatal Fury Special is tempting though.I've never played any of the FF series and I'm seriously loving KoF98 and Garou at the moment,especially Garou.
I think I'll resist though. I'm waiting on Aero fighters 2 and Super Sidekicks which are coming soon.
Getting the Hey Pikmin demo. Love Pikmin but hate Arzest so I want to try it.
Maldita Castilla ex for me.
@OorWullie
Yeah I'd love AeroFighters too. I wonder if we'll ever get any of the other sports games like League Bowling, 3 Count Bout, or Soccer Brawl? That would be great!
Still no Stardew Valley... I must be strong!
De mambo looks solid.
NA already got a Miitopia demo a couple of weeks ago is the "Casting Call Demo" different?
@rdrunner1178 Aero fighters 2 should be here soon. it's release date is still TBA on their Wikipedia page but going by their past Switch releases, once a game has a TBA next to it, it arrives within a few weeks. Last time I looked, Super Sidekicks and KoF2000 also had a TBA. Yeah I'd love for more sports games. I bought Neo Turf Masters last week and I'm loving it. I had Baseball Stars 2020 on Wii VC and really enjoyed it, I'd definitely buy that again. Soccer Brawl would be superb, I played that with my mate in the arcades many years ago.I've never heard of Count Bout or League Bowling 3 before but after a quick look at them , they would be very welcome additions too.
I'm considering getting Shantae, but I already have so much to play.
Nothing for me. Might grab a VC game on WiiU.
MyNintendo dot com and the eShop - places I never visit anymore.
I hope Nintendo will refund all the money that I have accumulated in the e-shop!
You know, I might try the Pikmin demo even though I'm not that interested in the full game...But hey, Nintendo...I'll let you in on a little something...how about a Samus Returns demo to hold me over till September? Pleeeeeaase?
Demos. Fatal Fury. And no Castlevania.
Nothing will be on Splatoon Splatfest though.
Wait, Nintendo is bringing Miitopia Casting Call to the US now!? Cool, I guess...
Really hoping they release some more TG-16 games soon, specifically Air Zonk and Splatterhouse. And of course, PC Engine CD games like Castlevania Rondo of Blood would be welcome too.
Saving my Eshop credit for Splatoon 2 and my time to play a few of my backlogs, so nothing until next week.
@Drac_Mazoku I see what you did there. In all honesty, though, I hope it doesn't get lost in the wake of the allegedly second-biggest July release and then forgotten by the big autumn releases, because it looks so fun.
Just got a 3ds and it's kind of a nightmare to connect it to my internet - bummer really want to get Castilla.
Want De Mambo too but I'm worried about the main mode not having a single player version of it. Don't really have anyone to play my system with.
The demos and the home menu theme. Don't have a Switch yet.
I have been playing Miitopia since E3 week here in the US.
I want to see what Hey! Pikmin is about, so I'll download the demo. For some reason, I'm feeling the 2D Pikmin vibe, but it could suck... just have to wait and see. I already downloaded the Miitopia main game demo, so I'm satisfied with that-- I really wish Miitopia came out earlier in the 3DS's life as I would've genuinely been ALL OVER it, but I digress. Overall, I see some good potential in these releases today, but I'm still too busy with Zelda:BotW and FEE:SoV. My next major time-sinks are going to be Super Mario Odessey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (IF still on track for "this" year).
I still don't understand why Nintendo can't be bothered to bolster these utterly empty release weeks with VC games, demos and some sales, if not some releases/remasters.
It doesn't make a world of difference, but it also doesn't take a world of effort neither. I mean, for the most part Sony and Microsoft are doing it as well, and besides from having more (3rd party) games released every week, these efforts just make their platform appear a lot more dynamic, active and lively.
It's just odd that Nintendo feels that they don't have to bother with any kind of appearances in that regard.
Just the demos for me. Really interested in trying Hey! Pikmin.
It's got to be Bulb Boy and Death Squared for me this week. Both look like a lot of fun
De Mambo and I and Me are pretty decent titles. I'm going to see what I think of Levels+ as well.
I'm all about the single player too, @Dang69. And having had an hour or two with it yesterday, for me De Mambo just doesn't stack up in Solo Mode.
With that in mind, I'd recommend proceeding with caution. Hope this helps!
Believe it or not, I don't have a copy of Fatal Fury Special for my own. Now's the time!
@Switch99 Yeah for the price I guess I might as well finally buy Wonder Boy instead.
Once I get out of work, I'm going to download Death Squared and get the Arms update and test out Max Brass this weekend. I haven't heard or seen a video of the other games available this week. Since so many of you are into De Mambo I'll have to look into that one.
#1 A Demo
#2 Nothing for me this week.
These eShop updates are pathetic.
Another snk fighting game? More subpar indie titles like vaccine? These updates remind me of the Wii U years.
@Onion Me too, we gotta tough it out... Any idea on when it will? The developers haven't said anything, right?
Demos this week, Cursed Castilla the next time I get paid. I'm not helping my backlog at all, really.
Getting a little tired of seeing Neo Geo fighting games. Other then that though, the Hey! Pikmin demo for me.
Glad to see my country get the Hey! Pikmin demo. I moderately enjoyed it on the European New Nintendo 3DS that I am insane enough to own.
Just getting that Miitopia demo thing.
@HeroOfCybertron yes, the previous demo is playable, this appears to be a demo where you simply stick your Miis into some trailers.
None of these, i'm getting Neo Turf Madters instead, and playing what I already own! Damn backlog!
I'm confused, why are people saying nothing came out this week?Maybe they only own a Wii U?
why can't I pre order Miitopia yet?
I keep waiting for Switch games to get truly excited about. I've seen next to nothing of interest since MK8 released :/
Downloading the Miitopia Casting Call demo now. I plan to pre-purchase the game today too. I'm SUPER hyped for this!
Anyone know when flip wars will release in north America?
15 more days till Miitopia and the 2DS XL. That's the only things I'm buying from Nintendo this summer. Looking forward to miitopia especially as the demo was hilariously awesome.
@Ralek85
Nintendo and other companies just don't want to make money on VC titles. They are quick and easy not requiring much work at all so why they choose not to and complain about piracy and people downloading illegal ROMS and don't do a thing about it. Look at Konami right now! A Castlevania Netflix series that is well received and they don't announce a new game or while the brand is so hot put out any of its classic titles! Honestly the sheer stupidity of it just baffles me!
You Switch owners must be super happy with all these indie games that could probably run on a Gamecube or an earlier machine. Aren't puzzle games like the bottom of the barrel? You guys get 3 of them this week!
@Mando44646 ...and MK8 was a Wii U port so not even worth buying a new console over.
The Hey! Pikmin demo surprised me. It was actually fun. Looking forward to playing it when it comes out on the 21st.
@Sherlock flip wars August 10th....if you're in the states with me lol
@OrigamiSquirtle
No word other than the possibility of it launching alongside the multiplayer update. Given that the game was added to Nintendo's site last month as coming soon, I'd say any week now and it'll be here unless Summer 2017 was changed without my knowledge.
Just gotta hang in there!
@Onion Alright. I'll try.

HHNNNNNNGGGGGGG
...
I CAN'T DO IT
Also, what exactly does your profile picture reference? I have no idea.
Im going to continue hoarding my Eshop credit until something pops out at me.
@Crono1973
"You Switch owners must be super happy with all these indie games"
Certainly am. Switch has replaced Vita as my indie machine of choice. Great work by Nintendo getting so many indie games, perfect for a portable, don't you think?
"Aren't puzzle games like the bottom of the barrel?"
Er. No. What a bizarre thing to say.
"and MK8 was a Wii U port so not even worth buying a new console over".
It is worth it if you didn't buy a Wii U (so, most people, sensibly enough) or want to play an improved home version and have it portable as well. Worth every penny.

LOL OK, you could have even more indie games on the PC you are reading this on and for much much cheaper. Buying a $300 console to play SNES level games on is kinda...well I won't go there. Curious tough, why would Switch replace the Vita for indie games, both are portable (Vita more so) and I would imagine Vita has far more unpolished real game clones (indie games). So why?

You didn't support Nintendo last gen? Oh well if you had you would know that there were too many indie games on the Wii U too. As for playing MK8 on the go, would you like to guess how many people I have actually seen do that?
I think there is a problem with Bit Dungeon+. It seems when I beat the last boss (Soul Collector) when I try to move to the upper screen, a notice comes up saying "An Error occurred forcing the software to close." What causes this?
@OrigamiSquirtle
Nothing. I'm just an onion. I snatched it off google cause I found it kind of amusing.
