Back at the start of Spring we started our usual 'Biggest Games' series, but didn't get around to doing a 3DS equivalent. To be honest, there wasn't much confirmed for the portable, regardless. We had a small collection of solid games, certainly, but they were slim pickings. From Spring onwards, however, a handful of enticing titles have been shown or indeed revealed afresh, so we think the diminutive portable is owed a hat tip for the titles it is offering in the rest of 2017.
Like our equivalent Switch lists we are sticking to games due this year, with the exception of a handful of Nindie titles that are 'TBC' but seem relatively likely to arrive in 2017. We can't include the mystery Kirby game, of course, while a few key titles like Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux aren't due until 2018. We've also combined retail games with download-only titles, to reflect the fact that the line-up isn't as deep as during the 3DS' heyday. And yes, we've included a Virtual Console dual release, for reasons that will be obvious.
So, with all of that said, below are a number of interesting releases headed to the 3DS, including 10 'main' titles and a number of honourable mentions.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - 17th November
When the recent Pokémon Direct aired plenty hoped for news of a Switch main series game; that is now known to be in development, but initially some were disappointed to see these new additions on 3DS revealed in the pre-E3 showcase. With the dust settled, however, it makes sense, and should do some interesting things with the Alola setting. These will be big arrivals for sure, and will be the main Holiday season push for the 3DS.
Pokémon Gold and Silver - 22nd September
These are the classic second generation Pokémon games for the Game Boy Color, heading to the 3DS Virtual Console. To top that off, using Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter you'll be able to transfer these Pokémon up to Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun, and Pokémon Ultra Moon, which makes it so Pokémon from even more generations can now be brought up to the latest games!
Hey! Pikmin - 28th July
The Pikmin series has a modest but passionate fanbase, and plenty are waiting for the inevitable Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch. For now, though, we have this 2D take on the IP from Arzest, which involves relatively linear stages across various 'areas', utilising both screens of the system for a tall view of the levels. We shared some thoughts on this in our recent preview.
Miitopia - 28th July
For a while this was "that quirky Mii game in Japan", but it's getting a big push in the West ahead of its localised release alongside the New 2DS XL. You bring the Mii characters on your system into the adventure, so you can have familiar faces appear as your allies and enemies. A lighthearted RPG that seems to have surprising depth, it'll be intriguing to see how well this is received.
Metroid: Samus Returns - 15th September
This was a very pleasant surprise at E3, affirming previous rumours that MercurySteam has been working on the series - it certainly has a bit of the DNA of the rather under-appreciated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. A reimagining of Game Boy title Metroid II: Return of Samus, it blends 2D exploration and action; it certainly looks promising.
Monster Hunter Stories - 8th September (EU) / Fall (NA)
It's fair to say that we seem to be in the midst of a scaling back in the relationship between Nintendo and Capcom, but nevertheless this spin-off RPG is finally making it to the West. Conceived as a new take on the IP to appeal to younger audiences, this is a colourful title in which you befriend, raise and then fight with your monsters in turn-based battles. We've liked the look of it for a long time, so are keen to see how its shapes up following its localisation.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions - 6th October
Another E3 surprise, this takes one of the most popular entries in this gem of a series and gives it a fresh lick of paint for the 3DS. AlphaDream utilises the engine used in other 3DS Mario & Luigi titles, which should look pretty sharp; beyond the core game there's also a new game mode in which you take teams of Bowser's Minions into chaotic battles.
Culdcept Revolt - 29th August (NA) / 1st September (EU)
It's fascinating to see this localised, as it's a franchise with a long history but frequent gaps between releases and minimal exposure in the West. In theory it has the ingredients to be a success, with a stylish fantasy style and card deck-building at its core. We quite enjoyed this in our first impressions; it could be one to watch.
Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth
Already out in Japan, news of this being localised to the West this year was met with delight and relief among series veterans. An IP that is much loved by fans, this entry looks set to continue the good work of its predecessors; we gave it a couple of spins at the Atlus booth during E3 and were left very optimistic about this one.
Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy - Fall / Autumn
After the end of the core series and some slightly odd (and occasionally abandoned) new spins on the IP, the Layton series returns properly with the Professor's daughter at the helm and some familiar mechanics. Out on mobile first, it's nevertheless due on 3DS soon and will introduce a lighter touch and puzzles across multiple short adventures and investigations. We recently spoke to Akihiro Hino about the game.
Honourable Mentions:
- Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters
- Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can you stay focused? (PAL)
- Antipole DX (Will hopefully land this year, the developer has announced an update on progress is coming)
- Chicken Wiggle
- Kid Tripp
- River City: Rival Showdown
- Shakedown Hawaii

That's one sweet list so late in the systems life. I keep saying kill it but I'm still having way too much fun on it.
Miitopia however is way over priced for what it is.
That really isn't that bad a list. 3ds going out with a bang!
Perched here waiting for the "omg these should be on Switch" comments...
First time I have played a Pikmin game (the demo) and I think I have found a new passion.
some quality games coming out still. 3ds has such a great library of games, neat lil gimmicks and features, its going to keep me busy for a few more years yet
Can't wait for Miitopia! I couldn't get enough of the demo, and the full game looks to have a pretty hefty amount of content. The battle system also has potential for a good amount of depth and strategy (With managing sprinkles) as long as the game gets more challenging later on.
Metroid and both Pokémon games for me!
3DS is still my favourite handheld ever, I may spend a lot more time on my Switch but that's purely as I have poor vision and a much better screen with HD picture quality helps me greatly.
I'm glad they're keeping the promise of supporting the 3DS even after NX.
Even if it's only Metroid that gets my money,
Never been a Culdcept or Etrian fan, got bored of the Layton's long ago, Superstar Saga is my favourite Mario RPG but they've dropped the ball so much with the franchise I fear the remake will be poor, Gold N Silver is my fave Poke gen but I also got sick of those long ago.
And Pikmin isn't Pikmin, it just isn't, I get why it exists, they clearly wanted a simple 2D kiddy platformer and they decided to use Pikmin to deliver it, but it's not Pikmin and it never will be Pikmin.
If it was top down 2D that would've worked, but a sidescrolling platformer, no.
My 3DS will continue to entertain me as long as I'm paranoid about taking my Switch outside the house.
Looking forward to the new Layton game. I started the DS line with Layton, and that's where it will end too.
Incredibly excited about Etrian Odyssey V and the new Layton game!
Looking forward to Samus Returns and MH Stories as well.
so glad we are seeing a 2D metroid game again. it's totally okay that it is just a remake. gameboy games are mostly very outdated
@MrGawain I feel the same - the switch just seems a bit delicate for regular travel use. But then I only just got a proper case for it now, so perhaps my view will change.
Looks like Nintendo is taking the patient approach with Switch, and this confirms it. Switch is doing "good", but I see they intend to keep feeding the 3DS since it's guaranteed money, as opposed to the Switch which is still gaining ground. Not a complaint, just an observation, and I'm happy for all that still have 3DS kickin'. Once I'm done with FEE:SoV, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment (And King Knight's game), and Phoenix Wright AA: SoJ, my 3DS is retiring from gaming duties til further notice.
I can't believe Mario & Luigi has more votes then Pokémon. Tells you how much that disappointed fans. (Not a Pokémon fan but I feel for the community)
Great list. Life is never going to leave this portable entirely though. There are two gigantic game libraries (3DS and DS) which will have people playing for a LONG time after support has ended. My backlog of obscure DS/3DS RPGs is intimidating.
Even if there is a Virtual Console on the switch, I'm confident that the DS/3DS catalogue will never show up there. Your best bet for that was the Wii U whose storefront will, no doubt, stop being supported.
Random and nothing to do with this: I had a dream last night that I got to go on a shopping spree in the Nintendo of America HQ employee store. It was a good one!
To be honest, I'm even more excited for this list than I am for an equivalent Switch list. Pokemon Ultra S&M, Monster Hunter Stories, Etrian Odyssey V and Layton's Mystery Journey are all big games that are going to get me hyped.
@Aaron09 Sun and Moon was just an incredible dissappointment for me and the three or four people I know who still play Pokemon. It was the first time the story actually felt like a chore and the Alola region felt so cramped. It's hard for me to get excited when we're talking about a direct sequel.
If they pulled a Gold/Silver and included an entire earlier region that hasn't been revisited yet, I'd be floored. But that seems as likely as being able to preorder a SNES Classic.
M&L, Miitopia, and Layton.
@MeloMan
"Looks like Nintendo is taking the patient approach with Switch, and this confirms it. Switch is doing "good", but I see they intend to keep feeding the 3DS since it's guaranteed money, as opposed to the Switch which is still gaining ground."
Yep, that's exactly the reason. If you think about it, when the Wii U was really starting to struggle, it was the success of the 3DS that kept the ship floating. Though the Switch seems to be on track to much more success, it is still in it's infancy and won't be a true money maker until the library becomes more fleshed out, and they handle the stock problems. Think of it like the Wii U situation again, just (hopefully) a much shorter time frame (maybe a year or two), then they'll quietly retire the system.
After a shaky start in 2011, the 3DS has reliably become Nintendo's little engine that could.
Culdcept Revolt got delayed to October 3rd in NA and October 6th for Europe.
Etrian Odyssey 5 cannot come soon enough. Immediately crams wad of cash into 3DS hinge
Pokemon GS, Metroid II, and EO5? Yes please. Now if only some of these games saw their way to the Switch...
They are rightly doing so to support the 3DS so well still.
If they decide to make a new handheld, they will want to have the Switch to be settled in for a year or two.
I see no reason to kill the 3ds yet, rather I think let it drop off during 2018 slowly. And then they can either announce some amazing Hanheld that links to the Switch in some way or at least be certain that the Switch is going to fill the gaps.
There's some great new titles coming out and I'm so pumped. Glad I can really put my N2DS XL to use. Most excited for Samus returns because it's the metroid game I've been wanting for I dunno how long. Also really excited for Monster Hunter Stories because fingers were crossed for that to get localized. Hopefully the amiibo come too, otherwise I have no problem with importing them. 3DS is still very much alive. I hope people appreciate this more instead of complaining about how these games should be on Switch.
@Zoda_Fett How do you like your N2DS? I just bought the smaller N3DS a month or so ago, but the N2DS looks pretty great to me.
DQXI?
Not sure what the criteria was to be on the list, but I wouldn't be surprised if DQXI outsold all of these.
Switch has something to aspire to with this much software support in year 7.
The only game I know I'm getting is Metroid. That said, Mario & Luigi, Lady Layton, and Etrian Odyssey V are definite possibilities.
By the way, how come the NA box art for Mario & Luigi looks like a 5 year old combined stock images on Microsoft Paint while the EU box art looks incredible!?!?
Only Sun and Moon and Miitopia interest me on that list. But I'm fine with that. I don't really touch my 3DS as much as I did anymore. Yay Switch?
SAMUS RETURNS FTW!!! This year has been insane for Nintendo. By the end they will have given us heavy hitters like Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Metroid Samus Returns, and Mario Oddysey amongst others. It's a good time to be a Nintendo fan.
The 3ds library of great games continues to grow. I'm excited for Metroid the most but Monster Hunter Stories and the M&L remake will definitely get some quality time in my handheld.
@KIREEK I'm pretty much the same, looking at my 3DS backlog and focusing primarily on the RPGs. Similarly the only upcoming games I'm going to buy are RPGs: Etrian Odyssey V, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, and The Alliance Alive, should it be localized. Games in other genres I'll get on Switch (Shakedown Hawaii) or forego entirely (Metroid: Samus Returns). 3DS had a great run and has a bit of life left, but for me it's now a legacy system that I'll keep for when I want to get around to old games, much like I still have my Wii hooked up in case I'm in the mood for a GameCube game.
One recommendation: if Solatorobo (for DS) is still on your backlog make sure to play it, and if it isn't then find a copy. It's a fantastic example of why Nintendo's handhelds are such wonderful platforms for RPGs.
I'm getting all of them. I don't really care too much about the Switch games coming out since we don't have one yet. The only Switch games I'm excited are Odyssey and pokken tournament DX (we never got the original). I'm really excited for Monster Hunter Stories, Pokémon Gold & Silver and EO5. I'm also getting the N2DS because of the cover over the cartridge slot. It means less dirt getting in my cartridge slot.
You guys forgot the N3DS version of FE Warriors though
MIITOPIAAA...!!!
I can't wait to start a quirky and wacky adventure to beat Evil Lord with my funny crazy teammates !
Oh, btw. I will put a Fierce Masculine looking face onto Princess's face once I got the game.
@PanurgeJr I actually really appreciate the recommendation. Solatorobo is one of those games that I was always interested in from afar but something always came up and put off my purchasing it. I'll be rectifying that and putting it on the backlog. I've heard a lot of great things about that particular game.
Of all those there, the only one I'm really looking forward to is Monster Hunter Stories. I definitely prefer turn-based RPGs over more complex, action oriented ones, so I think MHS will be a good first entry into the series for me, even if it is a spin-off.
Also interested in YKW: Psychic Specters.
@KIREEK It's a very good game. Solatorobo was a surprisingly good purchase for me. I picked it up randomly from a gamestop a few years back. Really well done game. The US version is pretty rare so I would pick up the pal version
Looking forward to Layton, but I'll have finished it on the iPad before it hits the 3DS.
Metroid all the way. I never played the original so I'm looking forward to having a brand new game in the series.
I am an unusual 3DS owner. Because the last game I bought is from 2014 and since then nothing. Oh no, I forgot on Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. That's one game during last 2+ years. And finally this year I will add another game to my collection - Metroid: Samus Return. At least I hope that developer won't screw it up.
Metroid is the only thing that matters!
I'm interested in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, Pokemon G/S, and Metroid. I'll probably only get one of G/S though. Much more focused on Switch now.
It's a damn good year for the 3DS. Still haven't got round to the new Fire Emblem. Then Metroid and Monster Hunter Stories are a must.
AND I missed Yoshi's Wooly World on the Wii U so will be getting the 3DS version of that.
Nothing aside from Metroid and maybe Pokemon matter to me. I would buy Ultra Moon, but money is tight since I'm saving up for a Switch and Odyssey while definitely getting Metroid Day One.
@KIREEK I'll have to disagree on Sun/Moon being disappointing and tedious. (Not so much for the "cramped" nature since Alola is admittedly very compact, but that compact nature appeals to different people and I don't have a big problem with it) Granted that first statement is based on what me and my friends see compared to what you and your friends have seen, but honestly the story was probably the best Pokemon has ever gotten in a mainline game, edging out Black/White and its sequel.
I really like we spend enough time with characters like Lillie and Gladion (sort of, he's a bit underdeveloped) to actually care about them, and the plot is as down-to-earth as it can be about a game catching what's pretty much aliens. The overly-tutorial and hand-holdy stuff really only applies to the first island, after that it's only "hand-holdy" in the fact that it's very linear. Though, I don't have a super big problem with it feeling linear because linear gameplay has its positives with a more focused story, like Black/White.
X/Y had a pretty lackluster story that was fortunately made up for some other advancements in the core gameplay, and Sun/Moon continue that trend fine while changing up the formula just enough.
My picks:
Metroid: Samus Returns - Metroid II was my first Metroid game, one that I still enjoy. This remake looked gorgeous at E3!
Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy - We need more Layton puzzling!
Ultra Sun/Moon - This spot was almost taken by Gold/Silver, but I decided to stick with new releases. These look interesting, though we know little about them.
Solatorobo, Red the Hunter is one of the best DS games in my opinion. Exciting action-RPG with stylish and charming 3D graphics, interesting story and fresh battle mechanics. You can defeat opponents by lifting them from behind with your mech-robot arms and kicking them mid-air, so no boxing allowed. Only one boss lets you acquire his gun for shooting some bullets at him. The best parts of the game are the exploration of many islands floating in the air using the jet-pack flying feature of your mech-robot, plus the fishing mini-game where you catch giant crabs holding small islands on their backs (instead of shells).
I really wanna play beyond the myth!
@Carnuss The game in your avatar picture is also quite underrated.
I voted for Metroid and Devilish Brain Training.
Nintendo conveniently forgets the Pokemon VC lacks virtual console features as do the ambassador gba games. So why haven't they released them to the average consumer?
I came late to the party... way too late!!! But with my New 2DS XL (my first 3DS system ever!) I'm having a blast playing A Link Between Worlds, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Tri Force Heroes (those are the games I've got so far)
Tri Force Heroes didn't get stellar reviews but I'm having A LOT of fun playing with my two kids (10 and 8)
My kids both have 3DSs but, honestly, I never cared too much about it, but since E3 when I saw that Metroid announcement for the 3DS I knew that I HAD to get one even if it was just to play that game. I'm glad I did!!!!
@EvilLucario I can respect that. I'll admit, the story was definitely more fleshed out than other games. I guess my problem wasn't with the story itself but the whole being-locked-into-cutscenes-as-soon-as-you-leave/enter-an-indoor-structure phenomenon as you're progressing.
Also, in retrospect, I also could not stand Hau. I don't mind having a friendly rival - I really enjoyed what they did with Wally in Ruby/Sapphire, for example. For some reason though, Hau was just insufferable for me. Totally a personal thing though.
In any case, it was by no means a bad game - definitely didn't mean to portray it like that in my initial post. It has the best elements of the series in one objective hand and in the other (more personally subjective) hand it grinds my gears.
There's a lot to like about what's still to come this year for 3DS even if you wish Nintendo had pushed these onto Switch (which is silly because these were in development even before the Switch was announced, & even knowing whether it would be a success or not, it wouldn't have been smart to put all your eggs in one basket). Monster Hunter Stories, Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, Layton, Metroid, Miitopia, this is a really nice varied list of games that I'm looking forward to, I also will be looking forward to all these series next games on Switch
@GameOtaku GBA games have no VC options because they're run in DS mode (gbafirm). They're also not used in Pokemon RBY to stop you from savingloading during a multiplayer trade or battle.
@TommyKinder
So what if they are run in ds mode? Still no extra VC functionality. It makes more sense to release gba VC titles on a portable rather than gave them stuck on a stationary console.
@setezerocinco
If you liked Hey Pikmin, try Pikmin 2 on the Wii. It rocks!
I only want Miitopia out of that list.
@Octorok385 comes out in two weeks I'll let you know once I get my hands on it, I just ordered an SD card and screen protector for it I'm excited!
How's the N3DS? I always wanted to get that specific system but after I was too slow to get the Pokémon anniversary I gave up. Definitely one of the coolest because face plates.
@Freelance why?
Surprising lack of hype for Ultra S&M.
Where's that new Kirby game coming at the end of the year? And Dragon Quest Eleven?
@Fandabidozi Pokemon S&M is the kinkiest 3DS game this year, no need for hype.
The ONLY game on that list I'd buy is Miitopia. What ever happened to casual games?! And Pokémon sun/moon was absolutely horrible, it literally killed my love for Pokémon and I'm so mad I wasted the money on that game. So, no way I'd be interested in buying any other Pokémon game. And Mario & Luigi, well I have that on my gameboy advance, still. I have the brain training game too (and it's awesome) but I've had it for, what, 4 years now? So, eh, this list is abysmal apart from Miitopia. Nintendo won't be getting much money from me this year. They completely abandoned the casual gamers.
Can't wait for METROID! Splatoon, Metroid then Mario. Things are pretty good for the next few months.
I'm buying Etrian, Layton, Mario, Ultra Moon, Metroid and MH Stories for sure. As for the rest i still have to check them properly.
Keep releasing games and i'll keep buying them. Bring DQ11 and MHXX too!
@Zoda_Fett The GBA SP was my favorite handheld for years (like, a decade), but the N3DS just might overtake it. The size is perfect, the buttons all have the exact feel I want, and Tom is spot on with his assessment of the screen. I hadn't realized how stretched out and blurry my XL made my games look until I scaled back to the smaller model. It's fantastic playing 3DS games at the resolution they were designed for, it really is. It's the difference between playing an SNES game on an older tube television with the correct screen dimensions vs playing them stretched out on a flat screen that highlights all of the imperfections.
@GameOtaku like I said, GBA games run in DS mode so they can't add VC options, they're only in 3DS mode which is unable to properly emulate GBA games.
Metroid, Etrian and perhaps River City.
@Octorok385 geez you're making me second guess myself on choice of upgrade. I agree I also loved the GBA SP for so long(and still do) but the 3DS library has certainty kept up to the GBA. I'm so glad I could grow up with both of these amazing handhelds. We're truly lucky Nintendo has given us the opportunity to grow with its handhelds. Gameboy SP had a sleek but simple design it was great, and to me that's how the N2DS XL is. It's just beautiful but simple at the same time. The N3DS non XL just looks classic. Everything about that handheld is perfected and I feel that the N2DS isn't far off. I can't wait to get my hands on it
@TommiKinder
Again so what. Pokemon RBY doesn't use VC features in 3ds mode, neither do gba VC in ds mode!
@GameOtaku So what's your point?
@TommiKinder
My point being neither use VC functions so why not release gba ambassador VC and those stuck on WiiU on the 3ds. It doesn't matter if it uses 3ds or ds mode as long as the games can be played, why is that such a big deal to some people?
I play soulsilver on my DSi so i wont buy Gold and Silver but why not put Crystal instead?
I still hate they wont let me put my glitch Mew into pokebank (i got the one in X/Y ofc).
But i'm not crazy about Metroid. I will probably get Pokemon Ultra Moon.
@setezerocinco Why not?
@Spoony_Tech Are you kidding me? Miitopia is awesome! Completely worth the asking price.
@CheezIt Devilish Brain Training is a completely new game. Have you already tried Team Kirby Clash Deluxe or the new Streetpass games?
@Mahe I'm sorry but that is not a completely new game. I've had it for years. In North America it's officially called Brain Age: Concentration Training. It was released in 2013 https://www.nintendolife.com/games/3ds/brain_age_concentration_training
And no, I haven't yet tried team kirby or the new streetpass games aside from the free ones. I have market crashers, and my husband has the racing one.
@CheezIt Oh you're right, I completely forgot that it was already released in US.
You should definitely buy some of the Streetpass games, and you should try Kirby too.
@CheezIt As for other recent games, have you tried Runbow Pocket, Cooking Mama, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World and Super Mario Maker?
@Mahe actually....I was a promoter for the original Cooking Mama game when it debuted on the DS in 2006. I've always loved that series too and own all of those games including the newly released sweet shop version. I have some Kirby games but those are platform games, which I'm not a big fan of (like yoshi, Mario, etc). I did buy Mario Maker for 3ds but got very bored with it. The casual games that have held my interest the last couple years are Puzzles & Dragons Super Mario Edition, Style Savvy Fashion Forward, and Tomodachi Life. Plus I'm still playing Animal Crossing New Leaf (now Welcome Amiibo) and Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer.
@CheezIt Oh, cool!
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe is more of a fighting game actually, but of course that might still not be up your alley.
What about Story of Seasons? And for upcoming games, Layton's Mystery Journey?
@Mahe story of seasons is fantastic. It's one of the best harvest moon games I've ever played and I put about 75 hours into it. I've played that series almost 20 years and my other favorites were harvest moon grand bazaar and harvest moon magical melody. The Layton games are pretty good too but I'd rather just play the puzzles and not have to deal with the epic boredom of their long drawn out stories. I used to like fighting games a lot in the 90s but not much into them now as I've gotten older and just like casual games. Mostly puzzle games, really, aside from stuff like style savvy, tomodachi, harvest moon, animal crossing, etc.
Metroid Samus Returns will stand alongside FE Echoes be the only two 3DS games that I buy this year. There hasn't been a 2D Metroid game in forever, and this entry looks like an epic return to form after last year's Metroid Federation Farce.
Every other 3DS game that has been or will be released this year outside of Metroid Samus Returns doesn't really interest me at all. It's a decent list of games for newcomers, but as someone who enjoyed last year's 3DS lineup and now has a Switch, this lineup doesn't really appeal to me that much.
@westman98 As someone who enjoyed last year's 2DS lineup, this 2017 lineup is even better. 2017 might actually turn out to be the all-time best year for 2DS games.
@Mahe
Sorry, I can't really agree.
I look at what the 3DS is offering this entire year and I see mostly ports (Yoshi's Wooly World, FE Warriors), enhanced remakes (Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, DQVIII) of games I have already played, and uninteresting spinoffs (Mario Sports, Hey Pikmin).
Miitopia and Ever Oasis both look like generic "JRPG The Videogames" (though at least the former is kinda funny to laugh at like Tomodachi Life), and I'm not huge into Layton, Etrian Odyssey, or Culdcept (never played before).
Even the two 3DS games that I am hyped for from this year (FE Echoes, Metroid SR) are not entirely brand new as they are remakes, but since I never played the original games, they are new to me.
@westman98 Miitopia alone looks like it will be one of the 2DS's all-time best games. Likewise with the Metroid 2 remake. And even the Mario & Luigi remake will probably be 2DS's best M&L game.
Then there's Team Kirby, and while Kirby Blowout Blast doesn't interest me, the third Kirby game at the end of the year could be even better than Team Kirby. RPG Maker FES is great to have on a portable if you like traditional RPGs, and from what I understand, Pokemon Ultra Sun / Moon will be completely new games, not really fitting the "remake" title. There's a lot to choose from, but of course, to each their own.
