Another week begins, dear readers, which means it's time for a look ahead to the Nintendo Download Update goodies coming to Europe. This week has a first-party eShop download and a long awaited retail release, while a huge upcoming Switch / Wii U title gets a couple of 3DS HOME Themes. There's more besides, so let's get to it.
3DS eShop
Tank Troopers (Nintendo, €7.99 / £7.19) - A cartoonish tank battle game announced in a Nintendo Direct last year and given a decent amount of promotion in Japan, in particular. 36 customisations are promised for tanks, accompanying a broad cast of characters and various maps and modes; there's support for up to six battlers in local multiplayer, too. We'll head into battle for a review.
3DS Retail Download
Dragon Ball Fusions (Bandai Namco, €39.99 / £34.99) - The latest entry in the popular series, this is an RPG that allows players to fuse characters together in strange combinations, while also being heavy on anime ingredients; the combat uses a rock/paper/scissors approach and there's also multiplayer battling. We rather enjoyed this in our Dragon Ball Fusions review. Available from 17th February.

Can't wait for DB Fusions!
How low can they go?
Appalling! But we're used to it by now, right?
Oh no, please stop. No really, just stop.
@Menchi187
Yeah it feels like that sometimes but once in a while Ninty surprise me with a gem of a game but not as often as they used to
When 2 themes stand out as the best picks this week, it's a poor week on eShop.
March 3rd me already.
Tank Troopers could have been great for 3DS in 2017, shame they dropped the ball and did not include proper online with it.
It will not be bought because of that and that is a shame, since it looked like a fun little eShop game.
Soul Axiom interests me because the Nindies demo was cool, but the performance problems that plagued the demo and seem to plague the final release also according to the review worry me.
I'll download the BoTW themes, I can never get enough of those.
How about throwing in Secret of Mana or FFVI on 3DS to get a little bit of excitement going before the new system arrives ?
@Tibob Because they'd hsve to get permission from Square to do so.
I'll probably buy Tank Troopers. 1st party WiiU releases are a rarity after all.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy
That's right !
I figured they had Breath of Fire, but that was actually Capcom (Square only released it in the US).
yawn the same old games getting discounted on 3ds.....
@RadioHedgeFund
Hate to tell you, but Tank Troopers is 3DS only..
Did I miss the announcement about Tank Troopers? The game looked pretty cool on the Japanese direct but I haven't seen any announcement about it in the west
@NintySnesMan I'd even argue those days are long gone sadly remember when we went over an entire year with not a single 3DS VC release? Never forget....
There's no need to pay full price for most of those temporary discount games. They seem to be on sale every other week, they may aswell get permanent price drops on them instead.
I so miss the Atlus sales. I suspect Sega put a stop to them. Has there been one since last Spring?
Those're some fun characters! I better give that game a spin. :9
Very solid lineup this week.
Yessss, Dragonball Fusions! Finally! I've been waiting for this beauty for ages!
@Menchi187
Yeah I remember. It was certainly the drought machine. I had lots of fun with the wii u though. Makes u wonder what happened to all those loyal Ninty fans that didn't buy it. I am not a loyal Nintendo fan I buy Sony aswell but I still bought a wii u. I showed more loyalty than many Ninty dedicated fans. Saying that though at least many of them didn't go through drought after drought
@CrimsonMoonMist Me Too !! Do you know if the European version will be censored too ?? Swords changed by Kid Son Goku's stick or something like that...
That feeling when the eShop discounts are so poor I'm hoping for my pre-order place to break street date (release) >.> I guess I could replay Ocarina of Time 3D, but going through that nightmare again is not very motivating. Oh well. Ranked Pokémon it is, I guess. Or maybe a solo challenge run of Etrian Odyssey IV... Hm.
Waiting for some insight on the tank game before buying it: it seems like a multiplayer-only game and I will be the only one playing it so...
DB Fusions is already reserved in a supermarket. Though I'm not sure if I will have the time and will want to play again through the game: I was up to the penultimate level in a stolen US eshop copy and decided to play the final phase only after the euro release (importing the save). Inbetween, my console took a bath... ^^"
@Ichi-Tan yes, it will.
Thought it's said Axiom Verge in he discounts.
Count me disappointed in that mistake.
Breath of the Wild themes will be interesting so I'll check them out...
Less than 3 weeks!
Tank Troopers doesn't sound like something that I'd enjoy, but I'm surprised to see that it's a Nintendo title, so I might be tempted.
Bonsai Barber was another nice surprise on Wii that I initially had no idea was a Nintendo title.
Come on Nintendo, release Super Smash Bros. already, there's 1 or 2 more chances left dependent on whether they stop the week of or week before Switch launch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE here's yet another reason I'll probably get a PS4 rather than the Switch. I'm just tired of turning on the eShop every week and see there's literally nothing of value to get at a discount, while on PSN (and mind you, I have a PS3, which is supposed to be more dead than the WiiU) you can still get first rate games with 50 to 75% off every other week. Unfortunately, I'm one of those adults who can't afford to spend their whole salary on games, and even before buying a single full priced one I have to think carefully and save some money in advance. As good or as successful the Switch may become in the futere, I don't see this aspect of Nintendo changing anytime: they are always going to be the least convenient company to buy from.
@Rei Thanks you !!
Meh, I'll wait for the eventual MyNintendo discount for Tank Troopers.
Hey, I need something to spend my coins on.
Pathetic. but expected
We're getting a retail game and a cool little eShop title. Not saying it's a stellar week, but we've had much, MUCH worse weeks than this! I'm saving my eShop funds for the Switch, though... so I won't be buying anything.
If Tank Troopers had online multiplayer I'd get it.
I used to really look forward to these weekly updates, now I almost dread them.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE @Menchi187 That there are people like you who compare a poor selection of games to persistent dehumanizing abuse is both utterly appalling and tragically expected.
I keep seeing Soul Axiom and thinking it's Axiom Verge, so I was excited at first at seeing the discount. How come there are suddenly two titles with "Axiom" in the title?
@PanurgeJr Get real. Was he condoning it? No. You just like stirring trouble out of nothing as usual.
@Menchi187 Ignore him. He's a troublemaker.
Soul Axiom- dag nam it I thought for a millisecond I was going to get Axiom Verge for 4.50!
Hrm, I thought Tank Troopers was going to be a full $40. Glad to see the price is better than I expected, may have to check it out earlier than anticipated.
Big question is, is it single cart multiplayer, or multi cart?
Where are our themes? They've not been uploaded onto the theme store...
