As you may have noticed, there's a free demo for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice out now on the 3DS eShop. The full title isn't far away, but this taster will allow us all to dive into the first court case.
Nintendo has also shared an eight minute animated prologue to get us in the mood. It's an entertaining watch, but you'll need to pay attention as it has the usual batch of weirdness that's associated with the series.
Have you tried the demo yet? Looking forward to the full game? Let us know in the comments.

Sweet!!
I'm curious about this game. Mostly how they tackle the problem of having a dictatorship where facts don't matter, because they have these divine prophecies. How will proving that without any doubt the prophecy is wrong in court stop them from saying "Nah, the prophecy is always right" and have Phoenix executed like all the other lawyers in the country? I want it to be good, but I don't really know about this premise.
Looks really good
I hope Spirit of Justice is much better compared to Dual Destinies, since i didn't like that one as much as other Games in the Series.
@Piersen Well in the demo they still seemed to care about contradictions pointed out in the divination sequence.
So I guess it's more like they have blind faith in it rather than dogmatic faith.
I guess it'll still be a bit unrealistic though.
Super pumped for this, will the gameplay be voice acted like in this extended trailer?! 😛
@Dizzard You'd think a regime that executed all of their attorneys because of said prophecies would be a bit more fanatical about them, wouldn't you
I'm not looking for realism in Phoenix Wright games, just some internal logic. This is the universe where the parrot was called to the witness stand, but it made sense in context. I think
@Piersen They'll probably be all like "we're gonna kill him" and then somebody from the royal family will pardon him for some reason.
Just what Ace Attorney universe was lacking for more peace and quiet - a theocratic government going Yevon on the court system. The story is already every bit as optimistic and wacky as it is solemn and inherently tragic - the dualism expected from these games.
Also, MAYA. Need I say more?
I'm still on Investigations 2, so even Dual Destinies are ahead of me so far. But I'll be damned if the sixth game isn't on my wishlist by default.
Dae this a while ago when they released the Japanese original. This localized version's voice acting is pretty bland and awkward by comparison, but still nice to know they're taking the effort to push this IP in the West! :]
@Dizzard Guess that's what interesting, how they can handle it in narrative. This could be easily a very refreshing and clever addition to the series or a failed attempt at being different just for the sake of it. Can't wait for reviews.
Not watched it (yet), but does it have Godot Porno Jazz?
Still no localized version of the Sherlock AA game tho.
Terrible voice acting, but everything else is closer to the game and better in quality in comparison to that stupid A1 Pictures Production.
Any clue which studio this is? Is it Bones again?
@Piersen Well, if I understand it correctly, the visions are still treated as gospel, but they are initially misinterpreted by the prosecution yet also contain contradictions that help lead to the correct interpretation of what actually happened.
@DekersHekers Pretty sure its BONES and yeah the anime series sucks too much crappy animation
@hieveryone Actually the main problem is that they focused way too much on the small details and ignored the heart and soul of the games. Bad animation can still equate to a good series. Just watch Konosuba.
Oh my gosh! Ahlbi Ur'gaid = I'll be your guide! They've taken the punny names to the next level! I haven't seen name puns like this since "Aladdin: The Animated Series."
Not gonna bother with the demo but I'm definitely looking forward to the game. The eh ... thing Apollo and what's her name again did while Phoenix was calling Maya felt a tad awkward, though.
@Piersen The vision of the deceased (seances) is always true and is established in the demo. Rayfa's "prophecy" or rather her own interpretation is not. The seances may be ambiguous, so it's up to Phoenix to provide an alternative interpretation of what the vision actually meant. Khura'in's court fortunately still cares about logic and facts, and will listen if Rayfa's prophecy is proven to be not making sense.
@HADAA Yes. But still, if they went all the way and killed off all their attorneys (can't get over this), not just adjust the legal system so it doesn't include a possibility of legal defense period (presumably because they'd represent opposition to their ideology), they'd just enforce Rayfa's interpretations as absolute truth. Why is Phoenix the first one to point out there's something fishy about the system and get away with it? I'm genuinely curious. If you know already, don't say it, I want to find out myself by playing the game
I expect the thing Ahlbi is holding over his head is not the treasure box. I don't know what happens beyond the demo but it's a typical Ace Attorney twist. Nothing is as it initially seems. I'm Glad Judge Judy is not the Judge in the games.
I was pleasantly pohlkunka (that's what they say in Khura'in when they are surprised). The presentation is top-notch. I was especially impressed by the dance sequence. I just hope the story, soundtrack and characters are up to the Ace Attorney standard. I've greatly enjoyed all entries but Dual Destinies and because of that I haven't been as interested in Spirit of Justice. I hope AA can get back on track with SoJ.
@DekersHekers lol i love konosuba, season 2 in january 2017 btw.. did you watched re zero ?
I will buy this if only to influence localisation of Dai Gyakuten Saiban.
These games need to come to the VC. I would love to play them!
As much as I want to get this game on launch, one thing is stopping me - the price.
I feel that £24.99 for a digital version (the only one coming to the West) is just too much. Just like Zero Time Dilemma, I'll wait for a sale before contemplating buying it.
@Piersen Ah yes, it'll be explained . Without spoiling anything, let's just say there's only one clause in the Defense Culpability Act, and it's NOT "you automatically receive death penalty if you attempt to defend someone". It says something else, and enough to cause the problem we see.
I'm gonna have too check out the demo .
@hieveryone Yep.
@Piersen From what I've seen, they're not just automatically killing the defense attorneys. Also, Phoenix isn't the only one deriding the system. Why do you think there's a rebellion being led by the ex-lawyers?
As for the Defense Culpability Act, I'm guessing it's the same thing as was once presented in an episode of "Justice League" of how an advanced alien society solved their "lawyer problem": the defense's representation shares his/her client's fate.
@Frosty_09 the 3rd one, Inherited Turnabout.
Maya looks... different. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
BTW, the voice acting is actually great this time!
@Frosty_09 It's already quite pensive, being Gregory Edgeworth's last case and all. But I can imagine it getting even now tragic in tone. The franchise can and likes to pull it off, but I guess that's one of the reasons I consider it among my fave game series.
@Frosty_09 I'm not too concerned about AAI2 as there is a playable English copy of the game.
