During the Nintendo Treehouse live stream from E3 we got a good look at BOXBOXBOY!, the sequel to the rather charming BOXBOY!. This HAL Laboratory follow-up has been available in Japan for a little while, so fans of the original will no doubt be glad to see it roll out in the West - it's coming to both Europe and North America on 30th June.
It continues with the core gameplay from the original, but as the name suggests the puzzles allow you to stack two boxes together. As expected there are also a lot of medals to earn, which in turn unlock a whole lot of charming extras such as outfits.
As an extra announcement, the original title will get a 'significant' discount later today, with even more saved for My Nintendo members.
Are you excited about playing BOXBOXBOY! on the 3DS? Let us know in the comments.

The first BoxBoy! will also go on sale later today. Not sure if Europe will follow.
EDIT: And the article has been updated with that info.
2nd EDIT: As promised, Nintendo put the first BoxBoy! on sale for $2.99, or $2.69 with the My Nintendo discount, down from $4.99.
As I said before, the first time I saw the original Box Boy during a stream I thought of it as useless filler in a lackluster E3 lineup. This was just my first impression, of course - I'm sure the game is a lot of fun, and might actually take advantage of the sale, as mentioned. But that first impression is why the sequel didn't surprise me at all.
@Yoshi Thanks for the info. I have been looking to pick it up.
One of the best eshop games box boy. .......loves that game
What a wasted opportunity to call it "BoxBoy Squared" (whether by word or that superscript number).
Semantics aside, I'm looking forward to it.
Boxboy is an awesome game. I like how it's designed to leave you stumped for just a few seconds before you move on.
@DTFaux That has to be one of the most awesome game names I've heard
I think the localisation team saw the Japanese subtitle of 'another box' and took it as an instruction.
Excellent! I've been craving for the Euro release ever since it was announced for Japan!
Loved the 1st one. Will be getting this.
Getting it too. I was pleasantly surprised with the original.
Already sold. I'll buy pretty much anything HAL is selling. They're the best at simple, charming games like this.
Day 1. BoxBoy was great fun. Really surprised me.
I would rather it would be called something different, but I am looking forward to this; I'll probably pick it up when it releases.
@Captain_Gonru
I'm already going through Pushmo/Pullblox as the sale finally convinced me to buy it; if it's in the same league, then we're in business!
Really loved BOXBOY!...! Looking forward to some fresh new challenges.
I played games like this on my calculator in high school.
Might finally get this on my 3ds
What would be worst? Wii Wii U or Wii U U?
Alright, jokes aside, BoxBoy! was surprisingly long and very entertaining and even challenging, I'm not expecting anything less from the second one. Anyway, I would take some Pushmo over this anyday.
Still need to finish the first one...
What a name
@Captain_Gonru
I'll gladly give it a whirl, no demo needed.
The original, including tax, is $2.85 on sale with the My Nintendo discount! There's never been a better time to get one of the best platformers on the eshop!
While I'm beyond happy that BoxBoxBoy is finally getting a worldwide release, part of me is frustrated that it took so long. I personally feel that Nintendo doesn't communicate releases well enough. There is no reason why this game took longer to release worldwide than Kirby Planet Robobot despite being released in Japan first. Nintendo just likes to make people wait for no particular reason and then proceed to act as if no one else knows that this game has been out for nearly half a year. I'm honestly just sorta fed up with it. Please reply because I honestly want to know how other people feel
@LegendOfPokemon sold
Tempted to get the original right now...
Any idea when the My Nintendo discount for BoxBoy goes live?
@twadezelda3dsxl live now in NA, just paid $2.72 after tax
@ap0001 I mean in the UK.
All I see is the 50% off discount on the eShop, but nothing on the My Nintendo website to get more off.
Huzzah! Little disappointed that it wasn't a, "surprise BoxBoxBoy is available now! (But we did get a Rhythm Heaven Meagmix, and I won't complain about that!) Day one for this title, after Megamix and other games on sale I'll put some eShop monies toward this.
That reminds me, I still have the 1st one to complete.
Not seeing extra discount either. 2,49 € with or without logging in MyNintendo.
@Moroboshi876 same showing as £2.24 for me not seeing any extra discount.
Bought it yesterday and played it today during my busride. Already hooked:)
This is great news. I'm so glad Reggie didn't stop this from coming Stateside. He must have been busy failing at other things.
One more day! Loved the first game, looking forward to this one, would love to see 3D effects added.
@HandheldGuru97 I'll be getting this and Rhythm Paradise on day one too. It would have been nice to have them come out after the announcement.
