Digger Dan & Kaboom was a rather neat DSiWare title, and developer Four Horses has been working to bring it to the 3DS eShop in an improved form with Digger Dan DX. Having previously cited a Summer release before stating that it was heading for an earlier arrival, the studio has now confirmed launch details.
It's arriving on 19th May in Europe and North America - for the first two weeks it'll be a hard-to-resist $0.99 / €0.99 / £0.89, before increasing to $1.99 / €1.99 / £1.79. For those wondering about its improvements over the original, the following are promised:
- All 100 levels from the original game, re-ordered to introduce new features more gradually.
- 4 themed areas with all new graphics
- Stereoscopic 3D layers
- Improved audio
- 60fps smooth action
- 4 save slots
A video has been released to show it in action. It'll be interesting to see whether this one lives up to the same level of gameplay enjoyment as its predecessor, and at those budget prices we suspect plenty will consider taking a punt on it.

Well, reminds me on Boulder Dash - and thats a real classic.
inb4 the flood of "Oh .99 I'll pay that but the second it goes to 1.99 thats too much"
4 save slots?! Im in!
Wow definitely trying it now. I figured it would be at least 4.99..bargain!
@Tsurii When the sale is over you get a bonus no one else got!!!!
I'm so excited for this I was willing to pay whatever price, but $1.99 means I'll probably buy it for other people too!
Looks NOICE! definitely will get this @ImDiggerDan
good price, but i am not really interested in the gameplay
Oh, it's basically Boulder Dash! Great, I'm in!
Looks like a fun little game.
Hard to argue with $1. I'll probably snag this one as well. The perspective looks a bit weird, but for what it is, it seems like a pretty good deal.
Eh, I'll just wait for a $.49 sale price. LOL
89p what a bargain! yes!
99 cents entry price, yes!!!
(99 is one of my favorite numbers!)
No reason not to pick it up at that point (I can't imagine it takes up five figures worth of SD card blocks)
@ap0001 It is approx. 27MB in size. Not sure what that translates to in blocks.
Humbly I admit this doesn't look too enjoyable for me, but reasonable prices are a great way to encourage sales (and loyal customers).
It reminds me of a Net Yaroze game or something. Kinda cool. Still not entirely sold though, even with that low price. Will wait for reviews and make my mind up then! (Funds are super tight atm)
Someone go get RCCAPSLOCK and show him that this is what a budget title should look like. Just because you are developing with limited resources doesn't mean production values don't matter.
just $1 ?
I'll definitely buy it
With an introductory price of just £0.89, I'll certainly be picking Digger Dan DX up when it launches on the 19th.
Any new levels in this ?
@XyVoX No. It is the same content as Digger Dan & Kaboom. I have not ruled out the possibility of a patch to add new levels, though.
Edit: For what it's worth - I did talk to Nintendo about making this free for anyone who already has the DSiWare version on their 3DS, but their systems don't support cross-buy with DSiWare.
Steamworld Dig is more fun. This looks too arcady to me.
@ImDiggerDan Ok well im onboard day 1 for me which a VERRY rare but at this price ive just got to support you/the dev and 60fps is always a welcome addition to how a game feels/moves so cheers. Question though any 'New 3DS' specific feature/controls ?
@XyVoX Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it.
There are no New 3DS specific features, I'm not really sure what I could have added that would not work on a normal 3DS. There are plenty of controls spare, so no use for the additional buttons.
its not gonna cost much but i can guarantee you people are going to still "wait for a price drop"
@ogo79 They can wait then. The game is launching at a discount to reward early adopters. There will bo no other sales (unless I get an offer to Humble Bundle it).
As a consumer myself, I hate it when I take a punt on something I am a little unsure of at launch and then the price drops to a fraction of the price I paid.
@ImDiggerDan
haha i see. and yer right, they can wait. im not big on waiting for anything myself. take the plunge
