SteamWorld Heist was a terrific arrival on the 3DS late last year, earning various Game of the Year awards including our Reader's 3DS eShop Award for 2015, and re-affirmed Image & Form as a leading 'Nindie' developer.
A key part of the promotion for that title came with its appearance in the November Nintendo Direct, with the studio's Brjann Sigurgeirsson appearing in the European broadcast and Bill Trinen introducing the game in North America. When targeting keen Nintendo gamers a Direct appearance can be a game changer.
Though the studio has been relatively quiet in public (if not behind the scenes) in recent weeks, it's now released a fresh episode in its 'Engine Room' series which addresses that Nintendo Direct appearance. Sigurgeirsson and Community Manager Julius Guldbog talk over how it came to be and how the Direct sped up completion of the game. Check it out below.
You can also learn more about this from our interview that was published shortly after that Nintendo Direct.
Image & Form also promised earlier this year that it is working on an update and DLC for SteamWorld Heist, while the game is still due on the Wii U and a range of other platforms. There's plenty to look forward to yet, it seems.

Seem like nice guys. Been tempted to get Heist for a couple months now.
I would happily pick up Heist if I had the money that is
I finally got shovel knight and I love it (although I'm glad I waited because i only play co-op and that wasn't an option before the Amiibo.
I thoroughly enjoy watching these videos. I'll get Heist soon enough...
@Drache_Kaiser Sorry I got distracted and didn't finish my thought.
I thought of Shovel knight because they talked about him in the video so if you had watched the video then you wouldn't say my comment was off topic,
but if I had finished my original thought it was going to be that since I really enjoyed Shovel Knight Steamworld Heist is the next indy game on my list that I want to buy
The idea, concept and genre of Steamworld Dig is completely offputting to me, but turnbased strategy games are very much up my alley.
I loved CastleStorm on Wii U. I love Advance Wars and Fire Emblem and Codename STEAM so I will probably love Steamworld Heist
@leo13
Steamworld Heist is one of my favorite games from last year. It's ok if you don't care for what Steamworld Dig was about. I do recommend it though if you see it on sale. It's a clever little game.
What's so promising about I&F is they decided to make something completely different in their second 3DS game. "Hats" off to them for being adventurous and taking a chance. They are easily one of my favorite indie developers out there.
You're a wizard Brjann!
Steamworld Heist is a fantastic game, such charming guys too
@leo13 You should give Dig a chance, its unlike other "digging/mining" games.
Its the only eShop game in my top 10 games of all time and its only like 5 hours so you don't need to invest a lot of time.
