UPDATE: Well, this is embarrassing. Thanks to kindly people on Twitter like Prof.9, it has come to our attention that "12/02/16" is actually using the European date system (12th February 2016) and not the American system (2nd December 2016). The 12th was the original launch date for the game in Europe.
It would appear that the Xbox Store has simply neglected to update its listing page since the delay earlier this year, presumably because no solid release date has been forthcoming since then. To add to the confusion, the European date (12/02/16) seems to have been incorrectly copied over to the North American Xbox Store.
Apologies. Suffice to say, we've located the person responsible for this hiccup and reduced them to their component parts.
ORIGINAL STORY: According to a post on the Xbox Store, the much-delayed Mighty No. 9 isn't going to be with us until the start of December.
The listing - a screengrab of which can be seen below - states that the title is expected to arrive on the Xbox One on December 2nd. This is presumably the same date that other versions - including Wii U and 3DS - will also ship on.
We're still trying to find out if this date is official; the listing goes as far as to state the file size of the game, which should set alarm bells ringing as it would surely be impossible to know the final size of an unfinished title.
If the date is correct, then it marks the latest in a sorry series of delays which have impacted Keiji Inafune's Mega Man successor. Originally intended to see release in 2015, the game was pushed into 2016 and then delayed a second time. The "spring" launch that was promised also seems to have passed.
At least Infaune has found time to make Super Mario Maker levels, so it's not a total loss.

LMAO
If this is true, I am not surprised at all. I'll be surprised if I ever get to play the damn game.
Must be the biggest, most complicated game in history...
It is the Duke Nukem of 2D games.
I thought the game was done and it was just delayed due to marketing reasons?
As time has gone along I've just lost more and more interest in this.
If a delay and new launch date are not announced within hours, this may just be a placeholder date.
Still, December 31st is more commonly used as a placeholder.
i think we might actually get a new Mega Man game before this comes out
Jesus Christ...if this is true, than that is just sad. I mean, it's okay to delay a game if it needs more time to be finished, but this is just ridiculous.
Ahahahahaha.
That is all.
Glad I forgot about this game. As I recall all these delays were due to the on line multiplayer parts.
W-well, it's still releasing THIS year, right?
(Truthfully after the disappointing demo I'm different)
...
Introducing Mighty No. 9 Maker! The pieces are all there, you just have to make the game yourself 😛
I've lost what little hype I had left in this game. Might as well wait until Mega man 10037 releases
Honestly, does anyone even care about this anymore? What will happen when we reach then? It'll get delayed until March 2017?
Since the date is just a mix up now, what is taking so long to get this game out? It's turned into an embarrassment at the stage. All that money, all the delays. Just seems like the biggest scam ever since last year.
I wonder whether the new Zelda will actually come out before this!
@Vegaphil Zelda U hasn't been delayed that long. It was originally announced January 2013 side by side Wind Waker HD.
3 years development time is pretty average for a Zelda title.
Lol.... This game is never coming out. This is what happens when some developers announce release dates but always fail to deliver. Mighty No.9 is a budget game that will not push cod numbers so, they ought to becareful how they deliver this game (or if they do)...
I'm almost certain they are purposely holding this back so they can release that damn film/series (I forget which) first and try and use that to build hype for the game because outside of the backer those of use who did care... dont
I can see the NX of which we know absolutely nothing about, coming out before this game.
@holygeez03 The Q2 2015 release was for an $800,000 digital-only PC title.
It's taken a year and a half because they have to port to every single 8th gen console and handheld + mac and linux + extra modes including online multiplayer + fancy collector's editions and distribution of physical copies.
It's been equal parts "people lack basic reading comprehension" and "Comcept hasn't heard of transparency". Seriously, they should've delayed the game as soon as the kickstarter ended.
@Sanicranfast Who said it is coming this year though?
Tuttut, and I thought you were a mostly UK website.
I'm convinced this game doesn't even exist at this point. They're just pretending there's a game to release lol But whenever it does come out, I'll be happy to purchase it. I don't mind the wait. Miyamoto himself said "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad". So in my head, it's a good thing that they're really taking their time with it.
ayy lmao
...annnnnnnnnnd i remove this game off of my steam wishlist when it got pushback, again. so when ever a confirmed release date is in hands, and get great reviews then i'll consider getting this game.
dd/mm/yyyy should be the standard for all countries anyway. mm/dd/yyyy doesn't even make sense. It's like using imperial units instead of the SI.
@TruenoGT That's an understatement, Nintendo will have abandoned the NX by the time Mighty No. 9 releases.
The sad part is that people had no problem believing it was true. I'm starting to think when it comes to Mega Man, it was not Capcom who needed Inafune but Inafune needed Capcom.
I understand the rumor got busted, but it's not like we've heard anythinga bout the game for almost 2 months, and the last release date we were given is long since past.
Right now I'm banking on Final Fantasy XVI - yes that number is correct - to be released before Might No. 9.
I so wanted this game at one point... feels like that was a generation of gaming ago.
@Freeon-Leon Living in American, MM/DD/YY is what we are all used ot, and it makes more sense. No one around here says, "It's going to be on the 25th of April." We say, "its on April 25th," because it rolls off the tongue more.
NL is NOT the one who should be apologizing . . . **SHAKES FIST** Darn you, Comcept and your infernal delays!
Keiji Inafune and Retro Studios are working on an Xbox One game.
That's why Mighty is delayed and no new Metroid game for Wii U.
Capcom will have resurrected Mega Man by the time this game gets released.
@SKTTR
You mean platinum? Retro is an exclusive developer for Nintendo...they don't make XBO stuff.
As to the subject at hand, I think there's something major going on behind the scenes with the publisher. No way this is just a network infrastructure issue.
All hype is gone I'll prob get it on the NX at this rate.
I have a feeling Monster Hunter Generations will be out before Mighty No. 9 does. lol.
@XCWarrior Maybe, but you know, it's kind of a rule that you either start from the lowest to highest, or backwards. It's more natural.
I've read the update but if he was in charge of any Mega Man projects that would have started at Capcom before he left it's starting to become obvious why they didn't do anything after MM10. *shifty eyes
Lol, what a noob.
Thank the confusing American date system for that!
(Seriously, isn't day-month-year much more straightforward?)
Do you guys think that maybe it got delay for this long because Capcom finally came to Inafune and told him to altered Mighty No. 9 into another Mega Man game? I wouldn't be surprise if that's the case since Inafune hadn't made any news about the game yet and Capcom kept saying they will make a new Mega Man game if the fans wants it something like that.
Id male several Duke Nukem Forever jokes, but to be fair, the Dukes situation was far less embarrassing.
I had that same problem when I was studying abroad in the US. Getting used to the month being first, instead of the day, was weird!
I can live with that as long as the games gonna be good -
As long as its good, I'm buying it. The behaviour of a lot of you is just as ridiculous as the number of delays M#9 has had, so they cancel out.
Odd thing is how much we hear about this game and how much artwork and such we see, but yet no one has even gotten to play it yet. I've a feeling it'll be more remembered for pre-release Fiasco's rather than good gameplay (if indeed the game is any good).
@AlexSora89
No, because in most conversation, it's far more straightforward and casual to say " I'm going to X place on September twenty eighth", and not "I'm going to x place on the twenty eighth of September".
I picture a snobby 19th century aristocrat in a tuxedo and top hat speaking that way.
This just shows that Europeans need to adopt the American date system
I realize that the article has been updated to retract the original assertion, but at this point December 2016 seems like a pretty optimistic goal.
Even if you guys goofed on the date, you might as well have just stuck with the error, because we'll be lucky if this game actually releases before December. Or just releases, period.
We apologize for the fault in the subtitles. Those responsible have been sacked.
Must be working on his TV adaptation of Mighty No. 9 then since this game has been delayed so many times.
@Kogorn733 @SKTTR A lot of former Retro Studios staff are working on Re:core, which also has some Inafune involvement. Just clearing things up.
You mean the date system the entire world uses except the usa...
lol @ goof
GameStop lists the game's release as May 31st, a day after Memorial Day stateside. Could be a placeholder, but it is a Tuesday, a typical release day for third party games.
So delayed again? Guess I'm going to be taking that $27 for it, and put it into TMS #FE...
I always preferred the European date system because I live in Europe, hahaha.
@EVIL-C
I dunno, starting with the shortest timespan (day), continuing with the longer one (month) and ending with the longest (year) always made sense to me. Like, "Twenty-seventh of april, two thousand sixteen". Dee dee, slash, emm emm, slash, why why why why. It's a straightforward format to me.
@AlexSora89
Whatever you learned as a child will make the most sense to you. I learned month/day/year, because it's common speech.
@EVIL-C
Cultural differences at work then, huh. Thankfully I'm slowly getting used to the fact there are more ways to spell out a date, but mix-ups are common with different ways to say something... and let's not get started on the metric system/anglo-saxon system debate.
Why are people still waiting on this game?.....
Oh that's right, they already paid for it
lol
