It's the beginning of another week, and though the UK Nintendo Download Update details and pricing haven't been issued due to a public Holiday, the information for the European region as a whole has still been released (with thanks to Daan Koopman for his assistance). This week's update includes retail releases on both the Wii U and 3DS, along with DLC, a DS treat and more besides. Let's get to the details.
Wii U Virtual Console
Yoshi's Island DS (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - Nintendo extends its DS download collection in Europe with this typically colourful Yoshi adventure. It has many of the standard features you'd expect of a Yoshi game, and we quite enjoyed it in our Yoshi's Island DS review.
Wii U Retail Download
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (Nintendo, €35.99 / £31.49 if you own another Kirby download on the same NNID, otherwise €39.99 / £34.99) - This latest Kirby adventure continues some of the gameplay ideas seen in the 2005 DS title Canvas Curse, this time utilising the GamePad screen. It's utterly charming, as expected, and features co-op support for buddies that fancy playing as Waddle Dee and enjoying the gorgeous visuals on the TV. We enjoyed this, though also had some reservations, and you can get the full assessment in our Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush review. Available from 8th May.
Wii U DLC
The following tables and packs will be available in Zen Pinball 2, as trials or full purchases.
Zen Pinball 2: Iron & Steel Pack (free or €4.99 / £3.99) - includes the CastleStorm and Wild West Rampage tables.
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron (free or €2.99 / £2.95)

Wii U eShop Demo
Trine Enchanted Edition (Frozenbyte, free)
3DS eShop
Bloo Kid 2 (Winterworks, €3.99 / £3.49) - The original Bloo Kid is a retro-style platformer on smart devices, with the sequel now jumping onto Nintendo's portable. Promising five worlds of nine levels each at a budget price, this has certainly caught our interest; we'll let you know what we think in a review.
3DS Retail Download
Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition (Nintendo, €29.99 / £24.99) - In a deal that certainly offers reasonable value, we have both the original 3DS iteration of the franchise and the Nintendo's Mario version in one package. Blending match-three combo making with elements of RPGs and adventure games, you have to battle through stages (or a quest depending on which game you're playing) to save the world or Princess. Essentially two games for the price of one, we'll let you know what we think in a review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Kirby: Triple Deluxe (Nintendo, €29.99 / £16.99 until 14th May, normally €39.99 / £29.99)

Yoshi's Island DS for me with Kirby bought physical.
No Paper Mario? When do we get it?
KIRBY AND THE RAINBOW PAINTBRUSH, Finally. I be waiting for this game so long. This week is gonna be awsome ^^
PAD digital and Kirby physical. Sorted for the week!
Kirby bought physical, so nothing for me this week.
Pre-ordered a physical copy of Kirby, so Yoshi's Island DS it is.
You can get Kirby for under £30 if you buy it physically. Not much of a discount there Nintendo...
Also nothing for me this week. (I gotta stop dreaming about Yoshi's Island SNES...)
I already have Yoshi's Island DS as a cart, and have no interest in Kirby, so I'll skip this week. If I ever want to LP Yoshi's Island DS, I'm glad I can easily do it by downloading this from eShop.
How does Yoshi's Island DS play on the Game Pad alone?
Yoshi's Island DS, Kirby is preordered from Gameseek and Shin Megami Tensei Discount.
Also hoping to pick up both of the Fire Emblem GBA games which have been out for ages already but just dropping that in there!
More Zen Pinball
Kirby U for me although I think the delay will only mean less sales. It could have been better if it was simultaneously released with US. Plus Splatoon in 4 weeks. Same with Codename STEAM.
Kirby now and S.T.E.A.M. next week. Finally!!!
Nothing for me. Got a pre-order for physical Kirby at £23, so never going to pay double that for a download. Also got Triple Deluxe from Argos for £20 in January. Nintendo really need to open their eyes and see what other stores, both physical and digital are charging.
Finally a week where there is something tempting for my 3DS: Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. I can never seem to get enough Mario! I would also buy the Kirby game if I had a Wii U.
Remember that there is a Mega May that will begin this Thursday. All Mega Man games featured in Mega May will be GBA titles.
Where's the logic in not splitting up the digital Puzzle and Dragons release? I mean, when you buy it physical it's only sensible to offer good value of 2 games on one card. But why not to offer separate digital downloads? Say I don't need the original Puzzle and Dragons, I want only Super Mario Bros Edition. And I'll gladly get it for 15 Euros, but not for 30, since I know I'll never play the other game.
I'll definitely pick up the free Monster Hunter home theme. I might also give the Trine demo a try and see what the game is about. Maybe I'll also look into Kirby Triple Deluxe depending on how the discount translates into UK prices.
The Puzzle and Dragons demo was very disappointing. I played Dr Who Legacy which is identical in almost every way in gameplay (I assume Puzzle and Dragons was the original) and it gets boring after a while, doesn't have the staying power of Pokemon Shuffle and certainly miles behind Puzzle Quest (and Marvel Puzzle Quest that is my main puzzle game).
Bad week for the most part. But that's okay as I have yet to start Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Super Star.
@ibis_87 you've saved me the time of writing this myself!
@Azooooz That's for the US only.
The Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Weapon Gallery Them is just plain epic! I'm gonna get it as soon as possible!
Bit of a dud week. Give me Paper Mario ya bums!
@RedDevilAde We've been asking the same thing for a lot of titles you have. We're still waiting for Metroid Zero Hour and Golden Sun 2... not fun only getting half the story while everyone has the whole story. Plus many more titles we are still waiting for.
Nothing for me, I only have useless pounds not euros
I've preordered Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush already, so I have only one question: Where is AVGN Adventures?
@Azooooz Not in Europe.
I already preordered a physical copy of Kirby for 34.99..so that's cheaper even with the discount...
So many good DS games, and so long since the first 2 were added to the Wii U eShop, and they choose Yoshi's Island DS.
How disappointing.
It's my birthday on May 7th.
Plus nothing good for this week. I wish i owned a wii U.
@HeyChrisA @ibis_87
Simple. Sales. Or a deal between both publishers.
@James_mussell98
Happy birthday man, hope somebody is kind enough to get you a wii u, it'll probably be the best gift you get for a good while
Puzzles and Dragons for me - digital I think. Looking forward to it.
Didn't know it was a public holiday, guess I'll take day off! The Kirby discount is useless, you can get the physical copy £5 cheaper.
i need kirby but i have no money D:
Kirby and yoshi for me this week, should keep me going till witcher 3 is out, super hyped for that. Also bit disappointed that the etrian games haven't been on sale as of yet otherwise would have snapped them up
Is Shin megami tensei IV is on sale every other week.
@Bass_X0 You should be able to put both screens on the GamePad.
@Azooooz Oh great, that leaves the rest of the month covered for Virtual Console... by games I don't care about Because lord knows you can't release more than ONE Virtual Console at a time, right Nintendo!??
Nothing for me again. Which is ok because I'll have my hands full with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for quite some time.
This is the European Update, it's called "Power Paintbrush", not "Canvas Curse".
@Peach64 believe it or not their eyes are very much open but like sony, microsoft and any other company in any other industry, they will charge what people are willing to pay (the cardinal rule of pricing). The fact is that as long as people pay these prices they will stay like that. Looking across all 3 console manufacturers and their stores and the prices therein, the fact is that many people must be willing to pay otherwise they would be cheaper. And to think, I can remember a time when devs and publishers used to attribute the high cost of games to "manufacturing costs" of cartridges and manuals etc. 15 years and an education later, however, I realise they were talking the proverbial brown stuff. Personally, I dont mind downloading nintendo titles as they generally hold their value and I dont tend to trade my nintendo stuff.
Just Kirby physically for me. Really hope it does okay sales-wise because I would quite like to see another Kirby game on the Wii U, I'm assuming judging by Nintendo's silence on the matter that it didn't perform particularly well in America and Japan
I'll wait for the inevitable discount on yoshi during the wooly world window, but that's my sole interest out of that bunch. If only they finally give us a certain SNES title to celebrate the ocaision too
@1wiierdguy Who would have guessed mate. With all these new tables, Zen are really spoiling us lol. Oh well, more tables for me to get my butt kicked on lol.
The VC is being discussed a lot this week and here today we see the problem yet again there is very little on offer for the Wii U, there's simply a lack of games, variety and choice.
I do want New Kirby game however am saving up for splatoon!
really nice http://google.com
@Bass_X0 It's really the only way you CAN play it. The screens are small, but only slightly smaller than an actual DS, so it's all very functional. Not ideal, but functional.
Gee did they run out of NES and GB/C games for the 3DS VC? Snark.
Kirby comes out and there arent any kirby, meta knight or dedede amiibo in stores ...
Wow 35% so nothing. D: Such a good week, this week.
@AyeHaley Isn't Kirby one of the commons? That's one of the ones you find everywhere here in Germany...
Phew. I thought we weren't getting the MH HOME menu theme cause America got it before us
@Monsti Not in the UK, the common ones there are Pikachu and [insert Mario or DK character that's not Wario or Rosalina].
@RedDevilAde Sometime in May so either 14th, 21st or 28th given that it's not this week.
@The__Goomba
If it's not that, then it's Code of Princess or three other Atlus games. I love Atlus' games and I love sales, but with the way it puts everything on sale quickly and constantly, I don't know why I'd buy anything Day 1 from it.
Ok will someone please tell me when space hulk/ space marines wii u is coming out! The trailer shows May 8th
Picked up splatoon for £22 so shop around! Kirby paint brush won't sell in UK. Very low interest.
Steamworld dig and possibly one of the trine games for me
Already have the MH4U theme. lol
EDIT: facepalms This is EU. xD
@AyeHaley @Grumblevolcano @Monsti
Yeah Kirby amiibo is pretty common here in Italy too in stores not called GameStop.
Why no UK prices?
@themylesfoale
Because it's Bank Holiday and Nintendo UK haven't released the pricing apparently, we know what is available because Nintendo of Europe have done their release.
I know Kirby will be £34.99 (down to £31.99 with 10% discount from owning any other download Kirby title)
and Yoshi's Island DS will be £7.99 (in line with other DS prices)
@Flopsy86 awesome. Thanks for the info
Will download the wallpaper and might get kirby, but I may wait and get Splatoon.
I'm tempted by Shin Megami Tensei - I've got credit on my account that I could use for that - it might be enough to cover the full cost.
On the other hand, I'm making an effort to beat more games that I buy this year, and by my count, I'm down by two games - a game like this might be an ambitious undertaking.
I'm nearing the end of Bravely Default though (and after a long hiatus), whereby I'll be just one game down by Thursday hopefully.
I guess I might have to concentrate on some shorter games...
Is it worth getting steamworld dig with the current discount? Has it been any cheaper? It's the 3DS version right?
A free theme? It's a good week.
Europe is just now getting the new Kirby!?!? Wow, definitely buy that, I loved that game!
Continues to be terrible weekly...
@ikki5 We've got our own fair share of titles that we're still waiting on also. What sucks is that Europe didn't even have a release the last few weeks (we finally got Super Circuit, but outside of that it was about 3 weeks of absolutely nothing), and now we finally play catch up with Yoshi's Island DS this week.
Basically both regions have their own frustrations right now. Personally i'm still waiting on MMBN2 and Super Mario Advance 1 & 2 to drop (in addition to Paper Mario that is). I wish they'd just release those ("bigger") sorts of games closer between regions (and while we're at it - would cease with the 50hz versions which probably just wastes more development time anyway)
What a load of rubbish, ah well I've still got NES remix and Metroid to finish anyway!
@TwistOfFate619 About SMA1 and SMA2, you could get the original games (SMB2 and SMW), less waiting and cheaper! I'm also waiting for MMBN2 but I doubt we're far off from getting it given that the US don't have Zero 2 and 3. The US have way bigger problems like only having half of a complete game (Golden Sun but no Golden Sun: The Lost Age).
Only 12% for Kirby...
Strange way to support a first party franchise and the Wii U...
@Grumblevolcano - I already have both games. Though as I said, i'm 'personally' still waiting on them myself regardless (I generally don't like the 8-bit versions of the games, and felt the updated versions were much more appealing). I didn't mean them as an general example though (they were subjective examples). My overall point and what i'm commenting on is just releases in general (not the 'half a game part')
But as far as as THAT goes, the fact still remains that we had our own frustrations. I can understand the annoyance they're having with Golden Sun (that basically goes hand in hand with MMBN2 I guess). But to me I only have to think back to how frustrating it was waiting for Castlevania. While I understand that the US had their own grievances with the lack of DKC, at least they got them consecutively roughly around the same time anyway, we had to wait a month between Castlevania games. To me that would still be similar situation with Zero Mission (none of them are truly "halves of a complete game", but moreso vital and memorable parts of their respective GBA series.
The overall point i'm making (to reiterate) is that nevertheless, there's frustrations on both sides. And i'm sure there's also that frustration over the fact that Japan generally gets tempting games that either of us other regions won't get for a good long while (Sonic Advance 1 as an example).
Has anyone played Puddle and can say if it's worth the 1,99€? I'm not sure if I want to top up my eshop account just for that game...
Kirby rtiple deluxe is £24.99 not £16.99. Ive checked today. Is someone else getting £16.99??
