It's now time for the final North American Club Nintendo rewards update of 2014, with the December offerings taking us well into 2015 and giving keen coin collectors their last chance to splash the virtual cash before Christmas.
This batch has the now-standard eight games, with four across Wii U and Wii and the other half available on the 3DS eShop. Yet again the Virtual Console accounts for the bulk of the options — the details are below.
- Kirby's Dream Land 3 — 200 coins (Wii U Virtual Console) and awarded 7/10 in our review
- Metroid — 200 coins (Wii U Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- Super Mario Kart — 250 coins (Wii Virtual Console) and awarded 9/10 in our review
- 1080° Snowboarding — 250 coins (Wii Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- A Kappa's Trail — 200 coins (3DS eShop) and awarded 7/10 in our review
- Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters — 150 coins (3DS Virtual Console) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- Bird & Beans — 150 coins (3DS eShop) and awarded 8/10 in our review
- Radar Mission — 150 coins (3DS Virtual Console) and awarded 6/10 in our review
These titles will all be available until 19th January 2015, and you can check them out on the Club Nintendo site. Games listed above for Wii U Virtual Console are only available on the latest home console, while those listed as Wii Virtual Console can only be downloaded from the Wii Shop on the system itself or on the Wii U via the Wii Mode. DSiWare titles A Kappa's Trail and Bird & Beans can only be redeemed on the 3DS eShop.
That's the end of the Club Nintendo North American rewards for 2014, so let us know if you plan to spend any of your coins on these games in the poll and comments section below.

When are we going to get something worthwhile in the CN rewards again?
I doubt it's anything more than wishful thinking, but come on and surprise us with something before Christmas.
Jeeez, why do the Americans get such a good Nintendo Club, while us in the UK get sleep kits and ringtones?
Hmmmmm... I think I might pass...
Oh come on.
I held off getting Metroid 2 thinking there would be something better this month...
sigh Maybe next time...
I'm glad I'm not from the US because month after month these Club Nintendo rewards keep on disappointing. Why can't NoA bring the physical rewards representation like NoE does?
The fact that Wii Virtual Console rewards is still a thing boggles the mind.
As for the actual selection, not interested. Yet again. Nintendo really should start offering more recent virtual titles. I'd be all over something like Stick it to the Man, which is a game that I've been meaning to get but is way too far down my list of backlog priorities to really happen.
@Samurairu My guess is that NoA is trying to phase out physical rewards completely, except for limited, game specific stuff like the current Smash Bros poster. The fact that they made this year's Elite rewards just a selection of downloadable games instead of something worthwhile is a big indicator, I think.
I already got a large portion of this list of rewards this month, and I already used my coins on Pilotwings earlier so nothing for me this time.
@darklinkinfinite I think you're right, but hope we're both wrong!
I never got that nice statue and have been hoping for something like that for years. As far as normal rewards, I'm fine with cute little bags for grocery shopping even, but posters and cards do nothing for me.
It's sad. I don't get why they can't streamline the rewards in all zones. Some of the physical swag in Japan and the EU are pretty nice. We never get those stuffed toys. Those are fun things I'd never buy, but would like as a free loyalty reward.
I have given up though, that's why I bought a Yoshi amiibo. =(
@ricklongo, I don't think they should get rid of Wii VC games (and I hope they don't ever go away, at least for as long as they're going to do this). Rather, I'd wish they'd let you choose between a Wii U or Wii code, that way you could get it for whichever system you wanted.
I would have gotten Kirby's Dream Land 3 if it were available for Wii, but I can't since it's only for Wii U, and I don't have one. Maybe I'll go for Radar Mission...
Kirby for the win! Needed some good VC for my wii u menu and finally got some. Not bad nintendo not bad. Give me some mega man(wishful thinking) and I will be set.
Def getting Metroid.
Something worthwhile for the Wii virtual console rewards for once! 1080 or mario kart?......or a kappa's trail.
Psst still waiting for X-scape
Why are they still offering DSiWare?! It wouldn't be as bad if they actually let you redeem them on the DSi, but it's 3DS only! Who actually wants a bunch of DSiWare on their 3DS?
Seriously, even if you charge more coins for it, give us 3DSWare options! Sheesh, Nintendo!
At least Kirby looks a bit interesting...
But yeah, nothing and no suprise either.
@Swiket
It's sad how often this gif relates to club Nintendo rewards T_T. They didn't even do the Wii U version of Mario Kart...just the Wii Version...WTH? I would almost just get the posters, but as much as I love games, I don't really decorate my space with game stuff.
Am I right in thinking if I get Mario Kart I can do the $1.50 upgrade to the Wii U VC release?
yay more kid icarus! (Sarcasm)
Jumping on that Kirby. I will finally have all three original DreamLands!
Birds & Beans and Radar Mission are fun games. If I did not have them I would use my coins for them
@blackbox64 LMBO. Shots have been fired by you.
@Webby-sama Yep. I got both Kirby Super Star and A Link to the Past for $1.50 on the Wi U VC since I had them on the Wii.
The reason there are less physical rewards for NoA is likely because of a larger population. More handling costs, manufacturing.
Least we get the Smash soundtrack thing
Here we go again. 1080, birds and beans and some radar game the rest I have. I am getting a little P.O.ed. 1705 coins and nothing to show for it. I might not have that Kirby game but I don't know cuz I lost interest in Kirby many moons ago. Maybe if Ninty were to give us some phisical prizes or games that we don't own already. Yes I know there's a bird game and a radar game that sounds so fun [email protected] bleep. Are you frickin kidding me. Those games are garbage and if they are not so what I don't want them (I think I'm ranting).
I have 1400+ coins and nothing they offer is appealing. So disappointing.
Why would they offer the Wii Virtual Console version of Super Mario Kart when they already released it on the Wii U eShop?
Might get dream land 3. Is it any good?
Yay! Let's see when they decide to end Club Nibtendo given the crappy games that they give out every month.
Oh wow People be quite, this is easily the best month of the entire year. I haven't seen this many games I actually want since the CN promotion started.
Kirby Dreamland 3 for me! Will try to get more coins for the rest of the VC options and Kappa's trail. I was always curious about that game.
@blackbox64 I'd rather have physical rewards than virtual console games. We only have Mario and Nintendog greeting cards and a Smash Bros poster set... That's literally all we have for physical rewards.
I hate hate hate Club Nintendo now. They put up that Luigi statue for 2 days and then it sold out. Put up the 3ds XL chargers and then they were gone in 4 days.
Give me physical items or give me nothing.
I bought the Smash posters as a Christmas gift for a friend and now can't get Mario Kart and Kirby. Not sure which one to go for since I know I love both.
metroid or kid icarus or both
@Webby-sama if you have the coinage to spare you can get both, in my case i got it free when nintendo did a deal on the eshop for wii u, buy one kirby game and you get it free or something like that
Garbage yet again
@Manaphy2007 Not really sure what you mean? I have enough coins for one or the other.
Well looks like I am taking one on the chin to clear my Deluxe rewards for the month. Really have little interest in Kirby, but it will at least give me the 69 points I need for $5 credit. Guess I should look at it as 200 coins for $5 and a free throwaway game.
I would get Kirby's Dream Land 3 if I didn't already when it went on sale.
Might pick up Kirby, but other than that pretty lackluster... as usual...
Never played a Metroid game. Is this game good, or do you guys think Super Metroid is better?
A Kappa's Trail for the first time. I'll get it, I've been waiting in hope to get it this way.
Meanwhile, in the UK we get wallpapers, soundtracks and ringtones. #NotCool.
I picked up A Kappa's Trail since it is the only one on this list I don't have yet. I was hoping for a Wii U title that I didn't have yet so I could earn a couple extra digital deluxe promo credits but oh well
@Dipper723 The first Metroid hasn't aged well. It was remade on the GBA as Zero Mission (fantastic game), but that isn't available on the Wii U VC. I wouldn't say the original is horrible, but Super Metroid is better.
How do you people have so many coins?! I only have 15!
Decided to go with Kirby's Dreamland 3 seeing as I have never played it before!
Not bad choices but it's times like this that I realize I've bought almost all I could want already.
Ok, lets see:
Kirby's Dream Land 3 — Own it already
Metroid — Own it already
Super Mario Kart — Own it already and this is the 3rd time at least it has been here
1080° Snowboarding — No thanks, plus this is the 3rd or 4th time at least this has been on here
A Kappa's Trail — Not interested
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters — Own it
Bird & Beans — lol, just no
Radar Mission — another lol, just no Plus this is a returning game
My verdict, this time, it is actually decent choices however it is again, games that a lot of people would already own.
@SuprisedStar
you either don't buy or register a lot of you just get everything unlike most people.
meh, rather hold them for next month
Kirby's Dreamland 3 I'll consider since I liked that game. Better than last time, but compared to the physical rewards they've got at NoE...this is just disappointing. Seriously, I want those physical rewards!
I'm Glad there are others like me with over 1000 coins and nothing to buy
I'll gladly take unspent coinage if you guys really need to spend.
lol.
I was hoping Tetris would make it due to its inevitable cut from the eShop next year.
Man, I'd kill for some of this digital goodness. Oh well, guess I'll have to comfort myself with my physical Yoshi doll from the EU Club Nintendo E-shop.
JK, it would be nice to get some of these games.
@KodyDawg You can still get Wii Super Mario Kart even when you're playing on the WiiU.
Can we please get rid of Wii VC rewards and just focus on the Wii U, you know, that system that they are currently trying to sell. The physical rewards aren't even worth mentioning.
I picked up Game and Watch Ball a few years ago and now I have 1,600+ points just sitting around. Japan and Europe have had some great figurines and soundtracks.
....Annnd Club Nintendo is back to being, well...pointless. :/
I have close to 2000 coins now that they've discontinued physical rewards. If they'd have made the Super Mario Kart the Wii U version I would have gotten that but as it stands I already have Metroid and Kirby's Dream Land 3 and I'm not interested in going into Wii Mode for the other two. They should have ported the Wii VC games over to the Wii U by now and dropped the Wii anyway.
I may pick up Kid Icarus just to get rid of these coins. I've never been a fan of the series, though.
@Webby-sama so if you have enough coins for either then go for what your heart tells you, have enough for both kid icarus and metroid but the question for me is "do i want to spend them on both?" and my answers is probably not, trying to save coins for something that will make me use them, i already used what i earned for the zelda poster and smash poster, plus 2 cases (animal crossing and the 18 card case), the wiimote holder and a few n64 and wiiware games.
Might get Super Nario Kart but I may just keep saving.
Sadly, the 3DS options are still lacking: only 2 DSI and 2 GB VC? Ehm... not really that interesting, although I think I will jump on Radar Mission. I played it back when it was originally released, and thought it was an amusing hybrid Sub Action/Battleship Clone. I'm eager to give the game a replay after all these years.
Truly, the only must-have recommendation on the list would be Kid Icarus 2, and everyone should grab it while they can if they never purchased it before.
Do you guys suggest I get Super Mario Kart and buy the 1.50 upgrade or just go with kid icarus?
@bbve I'd go with SMK and get the upgrade, that's what I did and I'm having a lot of fun relearning the old way of karting!
Bahhh so annoying, Super Mario Kart on the Wii Virtual Console? Is it not enough I've spent thousands of dollars on Nintendo product over the years? You're really going to force the $1.50 upgrade within a reward, especially when most of us have purchased the game multiple times before..
It's not the minuscule dent to my pocket that annoys me. It's what I'd normally view as a 'thank you gift' from Nintendo now holds a cheap money grab feel to it.
This doesn't get me in a cheerful spirit Nintendo.
I have 280 coins. What do you guys think I should get? Kid Icarus, Metroid, or Bird & Beans (don't judge me, I just like that game).
As someone who only owns a 3DS (no Wii/Wii U) Club Nintendo has been an absolute bust. Weak/recycled game selection every month and to top it off, half my coins expired while I waited for something good to show up. I am still absolutely bewildered as to why digital "coins" would expire...how cheap. Club Nintendo is trash.
more posters please
Already own SMK on Wii U VC
might get 1080. Or might wait and see whats up next month.
If this is what "festive cheer" is, then call me Mr. Grinch.
Zzzzzzz...
@SuprisedStar I average 1,800 each year for 6 years
@AkDeath don't the coins expire in like three years?
@russellohh I'm not sure how long it is, I just don't understand why they expire in the first place. The money I paid to buy the games that I got the coins for certainly didn't expire.
I want to get those Smash Posters!!
Well, I'll consider Kirby, but I'd rather save my coins for some good physical rewards. (though that could take years)
Other than that these rewards are the Pits!
@Swiket
Sums up my reaction
If they wanted to spread festive cheer they should've given us Pikmin with santa hats or something.
YES!!! Super Mario Kart!
It's gonna be Kirby for me!
These are horrible "rewards"...I really hope they back some physical rewards--especially the 3DS game case, since I missed out on it last time :/
Mario Kart for Wii and not Wii U? Bleh, why do they do that?
I love Nintendo but, I don't feel very rewarded with this selection. I mean I have had all the ones I love off this list for quite some time. We at least need some new VC releases. Guess they're just gonna ride Smash and Pokemon out the rest of the year as the best new offerings but, dang man. Throw us a frickin' bone here.
Well, At least Nintendo gives me something.
I get crap from Sony and Microsoft.
Nintendo of America doesn't seem to care much about its Club Nintendo members :/
Ugh, really? It wasn't that long ago that I bought Of Myths and Monsters. Already have like, four copies of Metroid and would much rather spend the coins to get Super Metroid on my Wuu than yet another original-Metroid.
Strongly considering Kirby's Dream Land 3, even though I already have that, too.
I think its time for Nintendo to shut down Club Nintendo since they don't want to offer physical rewards any more and the selection of virtual console games are always the same and often repeated. I would rather see Nintendo continue with the Digital Deluxe Promotion. I've earned $95 from the DDP so far and I can use it to buy newer games.
Lots of good stuff this time actually. Never played A Kappas trail or 1080, so I picked up both. Will be nice discovering a widely talked about N64 game I haven't played yet.
Will be picking up Super Mario Kart I have the Kirby Dream Collection for Wii so no need to DL Kirby.
KKKKIKIKIIIIIIIIRRRRRBBBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
ive really been getting into dat series
Damn it.
A good month for me this time since I do not own Kappa or Bird's & Beans.
@freaksloan Your comment suggests to me you haven't come across Xbox Live Rewards, that rewards program has become amazing over the past few months and I'd recommend you check it out.
http://rewards.xbox.com/
Once again, anything worth owning I've already got. That's how I got all the coins in the first place. Something exclusive, or even just eShop credit would be great....
not that game I want.... :/
I might pick up Kirby. I want to save my points, but last year when I did this, I held on to them too long waiting for something good to come out and ended up getting something I didn't really want.
I can only assume that NoA doesn't need our survey results anymore.
Great lineup, it really is. Too bad I already have all of the games that I would want anyway. Metroid? Check. Mario Kart? Check. Kirby's Dreamland 3? Check. Kid Icarus? Check. Oh well...
Ugh, nearly 2000 coins built up and there's never anything I want to spend them on. All the good games I already own, thanks to Club Nintendo. Just throw up some eshop credits or Amiibo and we'll call it even.
I so wanted Metroid!! ... for my 3DS =/
Metroid is tempting as I never did finish this title when I was younger. Hmm...
It's true that the monthly rewards have been weak but Club Nintendo has had some fantastic promotions this year. I got Pokemon X, Pikmin 3, and Game and Wario (plus 10$ in free eshop credit from the wii u games from the DDP).
I'm picking up Kirby 3 and Metroid to top off my DDP points for another 5$ eshop credit.
I refuse to get any N64 game until they launches the N64 Virtual Console on WiiU!
I don't understand why people complain about these offers. I think they're great and they give me opportunities to try games I wouldn't normally buy.
They are very expensive. Don´t use coins for the 3DS games. You can keep the coins and waste 2 and 3 dlls. It is better.
I wasted 150 coins for Mario Kart for SNES a years ago and now it is 250 coins. Bad Nintendo, bad.
the time for kirby 3 is now
Usually there's something I would pick up, but it's for the Wii VC, and I don't want to have to go into Wii mode to play the game. Plus, the SD card won't launch games in Wii mode, so I have virtually no space to store Wii VC games I already own, let alone new ones.
Still, Kirby 3 is tempting. I just have this feeling like someday there's going to be something really special on there (like a special edition Amiibo) and I'm going to be sad if I don't have enough coins for it.
Picked up Radar Mission and SMK. Probably gonna pick up Kirby with the CN points I get from Xmas!
@blackbox64
You've got to be kidding. We don't even get special editions of games over here, and our Club Nintendo is a barren wasteland most of the time. This is actually a high point, and I'm still a little annoyed to see Metroid cost 200 coins. That's absurd.
@AshFoxX WHAT!!! You never played 1080? The best snowboarding game ever. Best controls for half pipe too. Those were changed in the Gamecube version.
